Ya, I know. I'm thinking I need something like that for my banty Cochin roos. That way I wouldn't need more pens to keep all my hens separated with their prospective roos. Just do hand breeding. The only problem is who lays what! wouldn't be able to keep track of the chicks and who the parents were. It will never end! I've added a few new projects this year just like I do every year dangit but really got to make some tough decisions. Putting up pens and building coops isn't the biggest issue really its the time it takes to do all the cleaning and care. Want to make sure I have the time to properly care for everyone. I tend to spread myself too thin sometimes.

I'm getting one of these: http://www.bassequipment.com/Cages/Chicken+Cages/default.aspx

The
3 tier one with the 3" deep litter trays. That will work good for broodies, too.

The price isn't too bad and they are really easy to clean.

Exactly what I have for my rabbits!
And the big ones I have I have put a big stick across for a roost, in one cage, and that is the TIME OUT CAGE for fighting cockerals and other meanies.

Or as a hospital cage for any bumble foot or other injuries.

Hey, Heather, do you think there is ANY WAY I can get in on this? I would love to. The DH says he cannot look into those faces and then butcher them....good grief.....I would come and help. Actually, I would love to. I could probably come up with an area for the chickens to grow....I would need to do some safety checks and fixing....but I actually have a potential area. Let me know if you think she would do.

Yes--I'm sure it would be fine with her.. when I told her I was thinking like 15 chickens--she was like 50? I said no, 15. And she was like as in 1-5? LOL

Maybe you can I can split an order of 50 and split shipping? I am thinking that if you and I both helped I'm sure we could fly though em pretty quick! I was thinking though about ordering in mid-summer and then butchering in early fall? That way, I wouldn't be 8-9 months pregnant and it wouldn't be 100 degrees outside. I would have had the baby already and been recovered and ready! LOL

Edited to add--I'll have some cull Creves by then and maybe some RIR roos to do, too...and as far as keeping them at your place...okay...but we'd have to work out something on the feed...not sure how that would work...

I would love to do this....the timing would work for me too (early fall). Maybe we should get together some time and talk. My place was just an idea....If you have the space....that is fine with me...I will just pay what I need to for feed. I think we could make this work.

I have to admit, I was apprehensive-my friends are goofy, and like to play jokes on me--as they know how I am about crustaceans and sushi. Would you believe one night we all went out (hubby's too) to the Indochine in downtown Tacoma, we ordered family style and along comes the mahi mahi (that's the seared tuna right??) anyway--they didn't tell me it was RAW in the middle. awww as soon as it was in my mouth--that texture.. ich. OUT it came. I should have known because they all stopped eating to watch me. Meanie heads--needless to say they ALL thought it was funny. SO i get nervous when they pick places like that. But the place in Enumclaw--I'll go back for sure! it was great. Do you get up to Fed Way?? They have that huge Asian market-- H mart -- I am sure they would have rice paper there. I used to eat crab, if the whole cracking process was out of sight--but same friends--they made me crack my own once and that was that. Big ol' half spider sitting on the table. blech. lol!!

I used to sell PL candles many moons ago, and guys used to joke about making Man Candles--so funny that someone is doing it finally!!

I love H mart! All the cool food

But you know, Slaveway & Albertsons carry rice paper in the Asian sections. I was to like the Korean BBQ place across from H mart and the smell there is wonderful.
You grill your own food at the middle of your table. YUM.
Before H amrt, I use to go to Paldo World. Good as well, but my fav place in Fed Way is Daiso.
It is inside the commons and it sells thing from japan...all items are $1.50

Love it.
I use to stay next to Wild Waves. lol.

I used to go to the asian market in San Francisco...and could not really understand what I was buying, but great fresh fish, and big bags of rice and various packaged dried Nori (I love Nori) and rice paper tortillas.
I have some, this time from Iwagimaya..Love that store!
Do not get ther often as it is sooo far from here, but have a sister married to a Japanese man, and they do Iwagimaya alot, and pick stuff up for me.

Awesome....we have 10 acres so I'm sure I could find the space. I was thinking of making a PVC tractor type thing that I could move around on the pasture...it would be pretty cheap, too...I'm excited!

Awwh no curly and larry yet
sad.png

Float them in warm water, 100degrees so you dont chill em. Only a small bit should float above water if they're viable, if they're moving then they're awake and ready to start their way out. If they aren't moving and it's a few days late, they probably are goners

If it bobs really high, then they're goners for sure.
If they appear viable, maybe give them one more day just in case!

Curly & Larry must be in the next batch

Aren't you cute? You have no idea about how long it will be after the baby is born before your life resembles normal.

If this works better...I'm game. I am only on 1/2 an acre and then my parent's place is 2.5...I was going to use part of their area. You know more about what you are doing though. Like I said, we need to sit down and hash out some plans. PVC is easy and cheap to work with. I'm game.

Don't ruin my skewed version of reality? LOL I'm sure I'll be leaking milk and having to milk myself during this process, too! LOL
