Actually I'm just chicken fobic and am terrified of anything that resembles a dark shiny rooster with those sharp beaks and big red blobs...and am super afraid of wet chickens...any colour, shiny or not.
But I am being desensitised by you BYC enablers. That being said, I wouldn't touch one with a pole just yet.
They can be behind a secure cage & I can walk near them now...blood pressure slightly raised, but no heart failure yet.

I did tell DH I truly appreciate how hard he's been working to get the project finished. He is a good guy with the very best intentions and he's put in some LONG hours so far!

And good morning to all. I see it's raining again already. The coop is so close to being finished this is a little frustrating. I'm pretty excited though - DH and I are headed to a free workshop put on by City of Tacoma Public Works. The workshop is on "Starting Seeds & Garden Planning". Pretty basic stuff for most of you I know, but I've never had much of any kind of gardens and we wanted to try and grow a few things this year. I'll have to figure out a way to block it for when the girls are out free ranging, but I am also planning on planting some special boxes just for chicken goodies. No I didtn bring anything to the show sorry. I had the 2 hens and chairs and my girlfriend and her chicks. I can fill my truck up with soaps...
Right now I dont have any does in milk, but will in the summer. I keep trying to do a Dairy so I can sell milk. I go back and forth on should I do it. Oh and DH has to finish the milk house so can have the state (
) come out and say ok on it... Than the mind starts thinking do I really want the state on my land all the time NO I dont...
So maybe thats what I can do is make some with more beeswax and less frag.. Great Idea

Ok so bees make me run, I would run throught a wall if thats what it took to get away. Im allergic to them thats why..
Oh Spiders they need to be outside! Cant do them at all unless Im camping than they can be there becasue Im in their house...

You know, years ago when I was doing my driving test, the tester was scared of bees and one got into my very very small civic 2 mins. into the test.
This tester lady jumped up & down so hard I think she made a dent in the ceiling.
She was screaming & smashing the dashboard with her clip board so violently I think she might have broken the engine.
Well, needless to say, we never left the parking lot & I passed.
I love bees.

I use a separate incubator and hatcher. For the bantys, I did not open the hatcher but from pip to zip was 3-4 times longer than the Marans. In each case the chick was still alive but wrapped. The thermostat flicks the light on and off to regulate temps but there is a 7w night light that glows all time.
I read the article by Bill Worrell about dry incubating. Seemed logical. But now I am doubting everything I have learned up to this point.(which really isn't much)
There are so many differing methods, it's hard to keep it all straight! Maybe you should write a guide for us newbies. Incubating for dummies, I mean newbies by Chickielady. (Like you have nothing better to do with your time, right. Ha) but I would definitely buy one!
I'm not going to get discouraged, at least not yet.
