I am saving OE eggs for you, and if DH does not get back within 5 or 6 days, I will just go ahead & set them and you can either have chicks, or waite for the next gathered batch, as I have no transportation to ship.
OK, later guys..

JBEAR!! lol this is for you. one of the girls decided to lay an egg finally, she chose to do it while we were rebuilding the roost. she paced back and forth outside the door making all sorts of racket. we went to get some more boards and ZIP!!! in she went and would not vacate. so we let her have her privacy... first egg I have gotten from them!

Hello all, I have been sooooooooo busy...Talked to DH's Mom 2 days ago and asked her to check the meat market sales down there in NorCal to see if they were having any of their meat in the bag sales (like 6 pork sirloins whole, in the bag) and chicken, pork, beef & fish too.
Great sales fresh from the slaughter house, in heavy plastic unopened bags untouched by butchers at the grocery.
She said she'd check and call me back.
The call did not come the next day so I called her.
Got DH's dad..
See Mom had a pacemaker replaced last week.
They had to take the old one out (ouch!) I cannot imagine the pain to cut the wires out of the adhesion tissue, basically scar tissue that forms around ANY surgery, all the way from her cheat to her heart's sinus points.
Yikes!
So all went well, they sent her home, and here it was about 4 days later she is so sore she cannot walk, and getting in & out of bed or on & off the pot is out of the question without help.
So dad got her a wheel chair, and at 79 years old, he is carrying her around, up & down the few stairs, in & out of bed, etc.
So when I called her this day, which was yesterday in fact, Dad said she was so weak and in so much pain they took her to the little rural hospital's ER, where they looked her over, referred to her Big Doc in the city & dispensed pain meds & exercise (PT) instructions to keep working those sore chest & arm muscles.
By 11 PM she was so sore & in so much pain, they took her back to the hopsital & admitted her.
They then consulted the big city doc again, and he ordered tests run, finally, and found her blood badly enemic, she has a massive infection going on & the pericardium around the heart is engorged, inflammed, her kidneys were failing, other organ fuction was "slipping" and alot of the pain seemed to come from a piced nerve somewhere~~~
So, they started the IV, gave her antibiotics and no doubt prednisone....and flew her (we think) or drove her to Santa Rosa (1 hr drive) to St. Joe's Memorial Hospital where at last call at 5 AM, she was in critical condition.
So....DH got his CB hooked up, I packed his drinks, snacks, thermos & clothes, and off he went like the wind.

That's all I have heard so far...DH should arrive at his Dad's in under 12 hrs, and may have an additional 1 hour to Sanra Rosa to the hospital to see his Mom....should be about midnight when he gets there.
And been up since 4:30 with his kids calling in reports & woke us up, so we are tired now..not good looking at a 12 hr drive over the Blizzarding Siskiyous Pass.....

I'll be praying.

OMG That is sooo cute!
I had a Barred Rock hen (out of a flock of 25) that insisted she lay her egg daily, in my washing machine!
She would flip out, pacing back & forth & fly up on the lid and scream at me if the lid was down.
She would get in the washer tub then, nice & quiet, and lay her giant egg!
The garage door and the washing machine lid always had to be opened, daily, just for her.
We called her "May" after Maytage..

I had forgotten about that.
I am glad she never went broody in my washer

Thanks everyone for kind thought & prayers for DH & his Mommie.
We are very worried...I am basically double worried.
He is already tired & fretting...and I KNOW he is gonna speed there at 70 mph since I am not with him to slow his bus right down!
And California & southern Oregon are getting hit HARD with the rain & snow.
Way harder than us, believe it or not.
I hope he is not thinking what I am trying hard not to think: That she could be dying right this minute and he will never see her alive again...OMG, I am almost holding my breath.
I told him to call me the minute he hears how her condition is.
On top of all this, my parents and his parents have been TIGHT best friends SINCE GRADE SCHOOL>>>yes we were raised together, our parents were ALWAYS together, every holiday, camping, fishing, hunting...So now my Mom & Dad are flipping worried, packing their suitcases & a change of black dress clothes...and figuring they will drive down tomorrow early A.M. unless it appears she is getting better.
They are making hotel reservations & all....I think my Dad has taken his studs off so I am willing to bet he is at Les Swab even as we speak, putting them back on for the trip over the Siskiyous......

I will pop back on later.
I also wanted to add:
I send an e-mail to WFF asking who owned the beautiful Dark Cornish Cock Bird that was shown recently at Monroe, I want chicks or eggs!
I have SQ White Rocks in lockdown, so I am thinking of having a little pen just so I can hatch my own Cornish & maybe Cornish cross meaties, and sell their eggs, no meaties from a hatchery!
So, I have not gotten a reply from them, but if anyone knows the owner of that bird, please PM me!!!

And, JB: Are you planning on buying or renting a plucker ?
EVERYONE: Would it not be a nice idea if several of us went in and bought one ?
Then we could cart it around & have plucking parties ?
Tell me what you all think of that, those that want to raise their own meaties, this side of the mountains, want to chicp in & share the plucker ?
