CL--keepin' your family in my prayers!

Breshcandra ~ mine eat whatever we put in front of them.. They are lil velociraptors remember..

Their favorite snack is chicken carcass..... My chicks love any carbs, and we use bread crumbs to entice them to eat out of our hands and get used to us handling them. Also, lettuce, like romaine--they run around the brooder with it like it's a super duper prize. Yogurt -- plain, the kind with no fake flavors or sugars-- is also really good for them. You might have to sprinkle crack corn on it to get them to eat it the first time. I usually only have the vanilla yogurt, and they like that too.. I buy the huge Nancy's yogurts when they are about to expire at the store, and give those to the main flock. I also buy the organic salad mixes when they are marked down for the ducks and the chickens too.

just some ideas.... the only things you would be careful of feeding them are things that are toxic, like chocolate. Strong flavored foods are supposed to make your eggs taste off, but I haven't really noticed that in ours. I also read not to overdo the citrus stuff, it has something to do with calcium uptake. I still give them that stuff, but just not in big amounts.

Cheryl: This is probably too late for you...but may help others. I just found this on Youtube. She has multiple films of the different steps of her Brinsea 20 Eco. Her "call name" is EdentiaFarms. I found this information really helpful. I need to learn so much more, but I do feel I gleened a bit from her this morning. I am so excited

ETA: Because I forgot the web site:

At this point we just skin the birds. I also de-bone most of the meat. I would like to have a few birds with skin on them, but I still haven't figured out how to scald them outside. I need to come up with a turkey fryer base and then I could use the hot water bath canner.

you guys have seen the redneck chicken plucker video on youtube? if and when I process...I am making a plucker out of a drill.

I wonder if you can use the straps with the other kind of plucker? I bet you can

Keep up the good effort!!!!!! You can do it!!!!!!
When my grandpa quit, he kept his shirt pocket full of star bright mints. Every time his hands got restless, he would pop a mint into his mouth! He was able to quit for good that way!!Best wishes for your success!!!

Ive got Dum Dums! They help a bit, but I cant afford to keep buying more. lol Yarn and knitting needles last SO much longer! lol The antsyness from idle hands only lasts a little while thankfully! Im getting there! Im just sick and tired of always feeling sick and tired! Plus Cigarets are expensive! And I would much rather put that $8 a day torwards my critters rather than something that is slowly killing me over time.

I think its a great idea, but think we should just make one.. What do you think?

DH has looked into it, but the fact is, if enough of us go in, it will be cheap.
If I make one, what will you do?
You gonna make one too?
Is everyone going to make their own?
If I make one you want to borrow it ?

I was thinking if we went in on the supplys to make one it would be cheaper, than we would all use it.. Just a thought.

Wanted to let you know that I had taken my roo out of the run for 1 week (he was attacking the two BCM). I let the big girls all free range as much as possible and now your two BCM have fit in just fine. There is very little to no "harrassing" going on. Tyson (my little banty cross roo) was put back in with them and he has accepted everyone like they were always there....although he has looked at Emily and Amelia (your two BCM) and has the look on his face like "how in the heck am I suppose to do that"? I will get him a step stool. I am definitely going to need to get a big boy some day.
