Oh I wish I were but I'm over here on the soggy side!

Its been pretty soggy here and these roos stand in the rain and then end up looking like miserable wet mops... they are too cute, wish I didn't have to get rid of them.

So as we're gearing up, does anyone around Snohomish county know of a feed place that sells in builk? I have access to getting a couple of lightly used Tote containers (275 Gallons) and was wondering if I can get my feed cheaper by the #. Especially since I hear feed costs are on the rise.

I have to ask, where do you people find Morels? I've never ever found any. . . I don't deliberately look for them, but through all the fungi I've seen in our forests out here, the one we previously owned included, I've never seen one. Are they specific to deciduous areas?

Thank you....We spent all day working on this. And I understand the $$$$$ issue. Little dollar and lots of projects. I still want to get some SQ birds....just have to decide WHAT BREED I WANT. Driving me crazy. I love your Sussex. DD loves anything tiny and cute. I love bantam cochin - small and poofy butts. I have so much research to do yet.

Heathers Sussex are sooo sweet. Mine follows me around like a dog! Even when I throw yummy veggies into the run, she doesn't go squaking and squabling over the best pieces like the others. She prefers to eat fom my hand! The run is on the back side of the coop, but it sticks out to the sides. When she hears me open my back door, she runs from the run into the coop and waits for me at the coop door. She seems to like being carried around more than my other birds.

Looks like 2 of the black orpingtons will be roos (one for sure). I may cross her with one. Get a Sussington Mutt!

Around large Cotton wood trees,
It's still early, trust me, another week or two should look alot better.
Make sure the trees that your hunting around are 15-20 years old about 2-3 feet around.
You should do very well if nobody goes through those woods!!!

Okay, this question may make me seem totally uneducated....but here it goes. Are all the Sussex white ... like RFF or do they come in different varieties? (that is a rabbit word - not sure if it is correct for chickens - meaning color). I absolutely love Rff's white birds. I think they are gorgeous. If that is their personality too....that is so much what I want.

Around here the Morels are in the fire areas from previous years...the best place to find them. I don't trust my knowledge to pick them...I always go with some one experienced. Around here there is a limit on what you can pick....I think it is 5lbs. We have pretty decent size forest fires in our area on a regular basis...ask RFF about her experience some time...I know she has talked about it before, but stilll - ver scary. Anyway, I know that there had been a fire here and they actually would not let people in the following year to pick. Not sure why, but the area was off limits.

That brings a question. . . . What if you're picking in your own back yard. There's no laws stopping you from doing it without a permit or such, are there? I mean, people do grow them too, so, that would be a tangle.
