Okay--so I read lots during my lunch break at the library, since I don't have internet at work...and I work the juvenile department...and I'm glad no one called because I was a blubbering mess for about an hour this morning.

The good thing is the white spot on her heart (left ventricle) is the ONLY thing they found wrong (there are 20 of these so-called “soft-markers” for DS) and this is only one of 20 possible "soft markers." At least at this point without doing the Level 2 ultrasound, yet.

Other things they look for are the opening/closing of the hands, a nasal bone (ridge), flat back of the head, AV heart canal defects, folds on the back of the neck, shortened limbs & fingers, low fetal heart rate etc.

We did see the baby opening & closing her fists. Her heart rate was 138 bpm

They say 5 or more of these markers put you at “increased risk” for DS.

A “score” of 7 or more of these combined markers is almost "high risk."

Each marker they DO find increases the risk of DS by a % (that percentage varies website to website).

I also read that 4-5% of all normal pregnancies have this show up on ultrasound. A certain % of those will resolve themselves by 30 weeks, another percentage are born with a heart defect but no DS and yet another % of those have the abnormality at birth but it doesn’t present any issues with anything for the life of the child.

I am leaning towards it will resolve on its own or it’s some sort of heart thing and not related to DS —especially since I had the “triple screen” done and my risk factors for DS genetically were 1 in 13,000 and my age-related risk factor is 1 in 690 and baby has only one of 20 of these “soft-markers” as of yet.

I will ask lots of questions of my doctor on Tuesday and see what she says…I might ask for an amino or CVS to be done just to rule that out ahead of time...I don't think I'll be able to sleep or eat until the end of the month, waiting for that next ultra sound.

Hi guys.
DH got a call before he ever pulled in the driveway last night, that MiL is "stable" but doing nothing, no improvement.
her feet are black now, and IF she survives they must be amputated due to clots & necrosis.
her kidneys continue to fail..she has been defibbed over & over..she has one pin point pupil, one dilated, neither shows any signs when light is shown.
DH wanted to turn right around & go back but I needed feed & groceries and he needs to shower, eat and slow down.
FiL asked a friend in Sacramento to bring MiL's will, and her DNR inside to read to all in front of witnesses & the surgeon.
She does not want resuscitation if brain complicated..and so, tomorrow morning DH leaves again to go down there, and FiL orders the life support plugs pulled.
Once they are pulled, the surgeon said she may live a hour or maybe a day or two.
This means my DH is gonna drive 80+ mph to get there in "time".
I was going with him and have T-Hi come stay here, but we decided if the is a funeral it will take a minimum of 5 days to arrange, in which time I will be sitting there......and T sitting here....so I decided to stay here and when the funeral is arranged, I will hop a ride with my parents down there, and T-Hi and daughters can watch the place, and Diane (Boldogkennel) will watch over all here too.
This is so incedibly sad to know this wonderful man (FiL) has to pull the plugs, and let her die, the only woman in his life, together since they were 13 years old.
OMG it is so sad.
Don't look for me here too much, I am sad.............................

Interesting, Does he guard or does he herd?

BOTH. Sometimes I have to correct him because he feels like he always has to put everything away (by herding them). He's not bad with the ducks & geese because they don't back down but the poor chickens, he will herd them around all the time if I ever let them out. He is an excellent guard dog.
Here he is patrolling--this was taken this last summer:

The roo followed me to the front steps and then he & Cash laid down to wait for me to come back outside!

Oh my Gawrsh!! That is so blinkin cute

My roo waits for me too. But he likes to nail me with his ugly emerging spurs. My dog watches him and protects me, but now the useless roo attacks Buddy. And beings as Buddy is half Daschund (sp?) hes very short, rather like a Bassett, I'm afraid he will get nailed in the eyes. I have never killed anything in my life, intentionally anyway, except mosquitos... and slugs (with Sluggo)

Anyway, trade ya roos.

Make sure when you build your coop you build it big. It seems like you think you will get that many than a year later you have twice as many..
