We are all doing better here today & in California.

I hope they do not destroy each other's feathers in their love making...

Illia:: sent you a PM @ peppers

OK, got pips going a bout 12 hrs early on this Buckeye hatch..fantastic!
I am very excited about these stout dual purpose bids.
They also are in very large eggs..a great bonus!
They also lay year round and are great for cold weather, so more bonuses.
I have also been told by many breeders this breed is extremely docile, although attentive & self preserving, they are rarely mean, and so recommended to have with children, another bonus.
Well, I am talking to myself here, so will log back on later..

He's actually a little smaller than the others. Comb is bigger, sticks up more, and looks like it has three rows of bumps. Tail feathers are just now starting to come in, and only on the lower sides. Maby I should get pics of the others to compare him too? Could you or someone else, possibly post a pic of what a young wheaton cockeral is supposed to look like?

Completely off topic... But WHY do men ask where you want something installed, and then do the COMPLETE opposite!!!?

If he's not going to install the flood light where I said to, then why even bother to ask where I want it?

Go on the Ameraucana Breeders web site, they have LF & bantam pics of babies & adult fowl.

Ok I went and looked... All the chick photos are day olds, no juvenile pics...

I have some SQ Buckeye and some possible mixed with BO chicks. The breeder said if they have yellow legs its pure buckeye and if white legs its a mix with the buff orp.... Hallerlake is helping raise 2 of them. maybe "sandy" will be a mix that she can keep

I PM'd & sent you a link.

And hey, all you Nursery wanderers, if you see any "Strawberries & Cream" (Hydrangea paniculata) Hydrangeas for sale, please let me know, plus pot size & price, I am so in love with them & want several..Thanks!
Ok off to force myself to cook a meal & eat...finally my last egg customer showed up so I can close the gate & relax..
Heard we are getting a arse-kicking storm in tonight & all day tomorrow with nasty winds & heavy heavy rain...

makes me just wanna stay in bed.
Phooey!!!

Oh, and before I forget: Illia:::::: The tank guy said in 1 week he will have 4 and will hold them for us.
So, ready for more ?

I am thinking the Bucks & Javas are my favorite, and well may be what I keep & sell off all else...except the Dark Cornish for meat.
Three breeds...that will be quite enough!

(the news of the storm coming in tomorrow)

DH just got home with a gallon of bleach for me (DS had used up the gallon I *thought* I had )

I was planning to spray down the tractor and coop either this afternoon or tomorrow morning,
to get them pristine for my rambunctious crew (they fly up into my face every time I flip the brooder lid open)

but with mega rain and wind coming

I better put it off until we have clearer weather in the forecast -- I want these structures to DRY out --
do not want to install chicks in damp chlorine-ey surroundings

I may wield a scrub brush with Dawn and water though, to get the one square of pallet in the tractor
cleaned enough to get rinsed down by rain .. I may just remove that, though -- I had a brainstorm,
we have several lawn mowers around here that don't run, I could get DS to dismount the engines from
one or more of those, and attach the tractor on the wheeled base ...

I may wind up disassembling much of this hokey (ugly) unaesthetic structure, and covert it into a hoop type
tractor -- PVC is relatively inexpensive .. or I could use up some of my spare leftover aluminum canopy and
tent poles ... the tents disintegrated in windstorms at several events where we were volunteering
and I salvaged the poles and attach fittings that others were discarding beside the dumpsters

As far as I can tell under the red heat lamp, they both have yellow eggs.
