Welcome to the Washington thread. In Western Washington your can raise just about any kind of chickens. What do you want from your chickens? Do you want eggs, or meat, or both meat and eggs?

Thanks for the reply, justbugged! I would like egg layers who are good-natured, don't mind being handled, and are OK with being stuck in their coop and run on rainy days. Also, I don't have room for the really big ones.

My DD is the lead Service Tech for the worlds largest concrete pumps. They are going to use the pumps to place water for now, but the pumps will no doubt end up using them to bury the reactors in concrete.

Wow, How safe will it be for him over there?

As far as I know the Tokyo area is still safe. He will be delivering pumps the to the company branch there. So he won't be going to the nuclear reactor area. At least that is what I hope is going to happen. I did hear that they are trying to find a remote that will work up to 3k from the site.

The tub plucker is what I am interested in also. The drill one just looks like more trouble than it's worth.

We can share.

I mentioned that your DH is going to build one and now he would love to help build it. Of course he doesn't know when he will have time. Let me know what my share of the cost is. DH was more than happy to contribute for it.

I'm right next door to you in University Place. There are a good variety of breeds that do well here, and you're in the right place to find them! Many of our Washinton BYCers are excellent breeders of many of the chickens you might be looking for.

Hey SadieSue! Thanks for the reply. Do you have any favorites?

The Chicken Rustler has info on Rhode Island Red bantams. He says that he really love them and for a bantam they lay fairly large eggs.
