Well if we do the canning at your house, then we can do the freezer camp at mine. I need to do the actual kill this year. I haven't done that part yet. But with the kill cone (aka a used traffic cone) and a pair of sharp pruning shears, I am going to have to do the deed. Anyone that wants to watch or would like to bring some of their own birds to process, please feel free to come. At this point it looks like we are going to have the freezer camp school on either May 28th, or June 5th. If we want we could do a potluck for lunch.

Ok I'm in! I'll mark it on my calendar! Potluck works!! Anybody for fried chicken!???? LOL! That there that's funny right there!

I was thinking about hot wings at the pot luck.

I can so relate. This is the reason that I have a coop with pull out drawers. I wanted DH to look at the coops here on BYC, but he said he didn't have time. He really wanted to build a coop with drawers, so that is what I have. I have learned to

over the years. But I have to say that sometimes it really pays to listen to what I am really trying to say, and DH knows that most of the time I am right about things.

Still sometimes it's easier to

, and let the guy handle things.

That's why I build my duck's coop. It is not to scale, usually not to original specs either.

My DH gets to cycle and I get to have the coop when its ready. He will gladly help me clean up the mess later.

Works for me.
Ducks seem to like that arrangement too.

Be careful JB. I heard she just cut a bunch of willow switches too. I'd be covering my bottom if I were you.

Oh!!Q my Oh my. I missed that detail. Now I am shakin in my chicken run shoes. I am going to have to put on my overalls and make sure I get some stuffing in strategic areas. It's a good thing that I have a large supply of willow switches too. I have 2 big willows and a curly willow in the back yard. But since I am not very fast, I think that I will just go and

Yep. Maybe I should have posted the proof.

"Well, I am off to cook dinner.............have not had to that for a while...and DH has dispeared into his man cave...probably pooping & smoking.........
Oh well, so good to have him home.
And he cut a bundle of corkscrew willow from my tree down there so I can root starts (T -HI)

So talk to ya all later~~~"

Getting organic certification for a beef operation is really time consuming, even if you intend to feed nothing but organic feed, and it's worse if you live on a place that's been in the family for generations; unless it's been changed since we looked into it, they ecpect you to have records of every medication or chemical used on the place since it came into the family, and if that's not true you're pretty much SOL.

The chicken lesson isn't bad at all. It does help to miss the deed part of the lesson though. After that it is just like cutting up a chicken from the store.

but better because I know how they were raised.

I am so tired of this weather. It has not been wet over here, but it has been cold. There is a saying of old farmers here that potatoes have to be planted by Easter...no planting until all the snow is off of Omak Mtn. Well, lots of snow on Omak Mtn and i don't know if I can get my taters planted as it is still freezing at night. I am so tired of cold. Really windy last 2 days.

My family changed our restaurant from meat to vegetarian because we got tired of all the meat that needed to be prepared.

Use to have to cut up chicken by the case.
Don't miss it a bit.
Mom had a friend that use to go to farms to buy the entire litter of puppies. Named them all.
