Whew - I'm exhausted. But happy! First of all, CowGirlGrace (Lyn) would like everyone to know she is fine and wanted me to tell everybody "Hello"!
I returned home from a brief visit with her when I went to her place to pick up our new Light Sussex and Barnevelder. Both of them are very pretty!
CGG's computer is still in the shop and apparently hasn't even begun to make it's trek back home yet. We will be missing her in Stevenson this weekend as well. SO, I moved our "kitchen chickens", (the Ameraucanas) and our two new girls into their brand new home this evening so that everyone was going into neutral territory all at once. And now I'm a nervous wreck. I watched chicken tv through the coop window for about an hour, periodically opening the access door to move this, adjust that, close it again, re-open, etc. I can see already that the slope covering the nesting boxes isn't steep enough as that big white sussex has already discovered that she gets the best view from there. She sat on top of them watching me watching her through the window.
No names yet for the new girls. I told DH the white hen is his and he thinks he wants to call her "Whitey Ford". He may need to rethink that.
I am already missing my kitchen chickens a little and was sad as I was closing the access door when Harper tried to leave with me and I had to push her back in and remind her that she was a chicken after all and not a puppy.
So I'm just trusting that they'll be okay overnight. The coop is close enough under my bedroom window that I should hear if there's any commotion, plus I'm leaving the dog door off tonight just in case our Golden needs to chase off any critters.
Here's a few pix -
First the East side interior with "picture" window over the nest boxes -
West view interior with roosts, poop board and protected dining bar -
And here's "Whitey Ford" watching me as I tried to spy on all of them through the window. That's what I get for peeping.
