There are some vids on Utube that show a chicken using one and how to train them to use it. Seems pretty simple! Even for the 'challenged' chicken!

I have a few chickens that seem very smart...and a few that seem pretty, well not so smart. My not so smart ones figured it out first because they kept stumbling onto the step, trying to figure out where the food had gone that used to be there!

The first few times the lid opened they jumped back and it closed, then they would go back and do it again...and jump again...after a few times they figured out that the food was inside! This summer I plan to train them to use the water nipple...that one should be fun!!!

my chicks all start on hamster water bottles and pick it up within minutes. I bet nipples will be no sweat for them!

This is one of those nights when the only reason I'm not in bed is that it hurts too much to stand up. I spent way too much of this afternoon sitting on an enameled cast-iron bathtub that's been sitting in the shade all winter (including overnight temps in the twenties last night) or standing and leaning on the iron corral panel next to the aforementioned bathtub. I fully expect to warm up some time before Christmas, assuming I can go to a motel with a big soaking tub.

Or to Carson Hot Springs, that would be nice. But going to bed is going to take some effort. G'night.

NO way!!! MY DH was at CC during those years and was always in the comp lab. Loved his comp lab. Wonder if it was your DH? Small world if it was.

Probably, he was the guy who was always there, keeping the computers running and teaching a couple of classes, as well. There were other instructors, but he was the one who ran the lab.

My DH, Jeff, would have been there in 1990-91. And now has a more than full time job keeping the computers at PCLI's 18-20 branches (I lost count) talking to each other. He got the job straight out of CC and has been there ever since!

That is what Sher told me when I ask. She is also the one who told me they intend to get to 3000 in the future !

I wonder where they think they're going to put 3000 birds! LOL

THAT IS SOOOOOOOOO CUTE!!!!! Are you gonna make an entire quilt of different ones? Or pot holders? Or cute baby bibs trimmed in red gingham? Oh, the possibilities are endless!!!

I know most of you who are familiar with this fuse-toed chick won't see this till tomorrow...I mean later today but I'm up nursing a constipated chick so I thought I'd update. Things look good and are fully healed. Yea! (It's the one on the left.)

Oh thanks! I sat over that chick, razor knife posed and ready, for at least 5 minutes which doesn't seem like a long time unless you're preparing to cut a chicks foot. I was so afraid it would squawk which would have broken my resolve worse than any amount of blood. But it was quiet and it only bled, maybe 2-3 drops. So I was scared for nothin'! And now know that I could easily do it again. I think anybody could. Key is really sharp razor knife!
