Making white bean soup with kale and hot links - smells sooo good! can't wait till it is done.
I let the birds out for a few hours today, I even let Chirp out for about 45 minutes. She spent half the time eating pellet food in the hen run (don't know why she won't eat the ones in her cage - they come from the same bag! The she walked slowly down the hill to the veggie garden where all her flockmates were. Poor think looks stiff and sore when she walks, and she could not hop into the veggie beds, they are too high. I dug her up about 2 dozen earth worms including a couple giant snake-like ones like the ones that CL posted. She liked that! It was difficult digging for the worms with the mob of hens surrounding me! The Wyandottes even stood on the shovel and the mound of dirt being dug to try and get fist dibs! I was getting frustrated, I'd see all the hens pull great big worms from the soil, and most of the fat pieces I puleed were just short bits where the shovel cut it. Finally I got smart and stole them from the hens beaks! Chirp loved the worms. Then she hobbled back up the hill and I picked her up and put her in the isolation cage with a slice of whole grain bread. She was quite happy to be back in her cage, drank, ate, and settled her poor sore body. I sure hope she makes it! I'm so mad at my dog, at my daughter, and mostly at myself. Poor hen.
