= one large chicken pen.
I let mine free range in the garden all winter.
They have a pen, each at least 20X20, and they have gates that open up to 3 "paddocks" that are about 150x200 feet, orchard with tall nice grass.
So when the garden is growing, the birds are allowed to take turns in the 3 big paddocks, but they are still mad they cannot get into the compost & eat the millions of big nightcrawlers & red worms.
Plus I have slug bait down~~which looks alot like chicken feed...

How is Chloe today ?

I make pickled herring, and when I get a sturgeon, I pickle that too.
I also LOVE kippered herring...used to have good stuff in Half Moon Bay, CA with a nice tall icy beer~~~~~~~
Now I gotta drink Red Bridge (gluton free) beer.
YUM, got me thinking about it now...herring is cheap, pickle spice & vinegar...I am thinking hard here.
I have to depart & visit Craigs List for trailers again.............

This sucks.

Matilda is a beautiful bird. Very elegant and proper....well that is unless she is following Tyson around. She is very "clean"....by that I mean her "lines". She is a very nice looking bird. I will try to get a photo... just not sure when i can do...I will try though.

In the fall, I cooped them all in with the Cuckoos, and the boys did the deed, and the result is one hatched egg to test my sportsman out, is Matilda.
She has always been very personable, like the biddies were, and the Cuckoo hens are the same way, gentle but firm, and fantastic year round layers.
She is bigger than the biddies, more a Cuckoo body.
This is her in the background...

There is my Tilly (Matilda) girl. She is so pretty. I love her lines and her look. She is a good layer and makes sure that everyone knows what a good job she has done. She is very personable and loves attention.

Making white bean soup with kale and hot links - smells sooo good! can't wait till it is done.

I let the birds out for a few hours today, I even let Chirp out for about 45 minutes. She spent half the time eating pellet food in the hen run (don't know why she won't eat the ones in her cage - they come from the same bag! The she walked slowly down the hill to the veggie garden where all her flockmates were. Poor think looks stiff and sore when she walks, and she could not hop into the veggie beds, they are too high. I dug her up about 2 dozen earth worms including a couple giant snake-like ones like the ones that CL posted. She liked that! It was difficult digging for the worms with the mob of hens surrounding me! The Wyandottes even stood on the shovel and the mound of dirt being dug to try and get fist dibs! I was getting frustrated, I'd see all the hens pull great big worms from the soil, and most of the fat pieces I puleed were just short bits where the shovel cut it. Finally I got smart and stole them from the hens beaks! Chirp loved the worms. Then she hobbled back up the hill and I picked her up and put her in the isolation cage with a slice of whole grain bread. She was quite happy to be back in her cage, drank, ate, and settled her poor sore body. I sure hope she makes it! I'm so mad at my dog, at my daughter, and mostly at myself. Poor hen.

Diphenhydramine.

or Loratidine ... marketed as "AllerClear" at Costco
(far cheaper in that formulation, there, than anywhere else except sometimes buy-one-get-one-free at RiteAid, sometimes not even then)

oh yes, since it's a different sort of med, it doesn't make you either sleepy OR wired ... just lets you breathe and not itch
