Bad News.

I had a phone call this morning from my uncle saying my grandmother is on her death bed. (this is my grandmother from my birthfathers family, I'm adopted)

So after a few minutes of trying to wake up and despite my uncle saying I didn't have to come or to just have a good memory of her I decided to drive back to pullman, all the way to Clarkston.

I visited with him from 6.30 to 10:30 tonight. I might stay another night or just leave later tomorrow after goodbyes... just playing it by ear.
She is in acoma but is in her house. Its not as bad as I thought because it seems more natural compared to seeing someone hooked up to many things.
She hasn't eaten in 3 days but is still getting dropperfuls of water. My uncle has been taking care of her for 5 years at least.
She has alztimers and has been at the final stage for over a year. She had a stroke last sunday and has had mini stokes ever since they think and that is why she is in acoma and on morphine. When I was talking to her I saw tears going down her face. My uncle says that she hears you, I did notice that her eyes moved under her eyelids alot. Otherwise it was weird talking to someone who was "snoring". I have only met her twice in my life and that was in the past 2 years.... yet there is this familiarity and in a weird way every time I met her I get this feeling she knows who I am despite not knowing me. (I was told that when I was adopted it was very traumatic for her and she has always kept a picture of me when I was born on her fridge)

So I am tired and have alot of mixed emotions right now and this is something I am not used to or really know how to deal with. Mom understood and is ok with me missing out on tomorrow's holiday.

My uncle gave me 2 of my grandmothers sweatshirts, her Homemakers membership bracelet and a gold chain necklace. I plan to buy storage garment bag at walmart tomorrow to store those clothes in because they have her scent and I want to preserve it/them.

My boyfriend drove the whole way and he also stopped and bought to coolest souvenir for me that cheered me up. I will post pictures later.... its chicken related.

Carmen and Ginger are both broody. You should see them trying to set in the one nest box. You should see when Maisie or Roz wants to lay an egg in the same box.

Well, after sitting thrrough the meeting on the Marans at Stevenson, the day after they were accepted by the APA, I was told by the guy (who seemed to know) that APA was accepting the French standard as the APA standard, and that they could be shown as of that weekend, so I have to assume they have a US standard if they are being judged by it????

And to the person who thought I was talking about a chicken "show" - no, I was talking about a poultry auction. Poultry shows are VERY low key compared to dog shows!

The Oakville auction closed down for reasons that are being kept pretty close to the chest I gather. Two new auctions have started up, in direct competition with each other. Both in Chehalis. One is at the Yardbirds (North end of building) and starts at 10 AM on Saturdays, and the other is up on COal Creek Rd, and starts at 11 AM on Sat. The Oakville guy suggested we support the Coal Creek auction, which is what I have been doing, but after today's performance, I'll be sitting down at the Yard Birds one. Gotta tell you, there's some great people watching to be done there... and people are selling goats and pigs, etc right out of their cars. It's wild. They also sell a lot of pens and things. I sold two old live traps today.

I'm sorry. I'd forgotten that the APA recently accepted the marans.

That's my old basset, Miguel. He naps a lot even by basset hound standards these days.

Poor old timer. How's he handling life outdoors?

He'd rather be indoors, but he's figuring out the doghouse. I put his doggy coat on at night to keep him warm.

I'm sorry. That's a sweet idea about wanting to preserve her scent on her clothes. Letting you miss Mother's Day was big of your mother.

I'm up to about 20 little guys now!

One has splayed legs though, what should I do to help him? He's so tiny I tried cutting tape small enough and wrapping it around but then he just refuses to walk. I was thinking maybe tying string?

I use one of those easy peel bandaids... cut a 1/4 (length wise) off.. use the pad area between legs and fold the sticky onto the padded area. makes it easy to get off.. and its hard to get anything on them legs! 2 people best so 1 holds chick and 2 uses both hands to get the bandaid on
