OK I need some help here. Yesterday one of my fingers got very sore right along the edge of the nail. By this am it was red, swollen and oozing custard. Any body ever have similar and how would ya treat it. I do remember when I was a kid I got something like this but it has been a long time. I think the doc called it infantigo (sp). Seems like they use to have me use a special soap ?

My son sometimes gets that, usually along a toenail when his shoes get too tight and DS has had it on a fingernail like that before. We wash and soak for 20 min or so in very warm water, squish out the mayo, wash again, slather on manuka honey and wrap it good. 24 hours later when we unwrap, the finger or toe is fine. DS has had peeling skin in the area. Our pediatrician knows we do this and was good with it. DS once got another injury to his leg when I was treating his toe and had to go to the emergency room, the Dr. there was impressed at how quickly the honey worked.

Use neosporin if you don't have the honey. PM me your address and I will mail you some.

I just looked up infantigo and impetigo on the internet. That is not what my kids had and likely not what you have. Kids had infections along the edge of the nailbed and complained of soreness, not itchiness, and they did not have puss filled pimples in the area. In DD's case, she had a big splinter under her nail and it got infected. It looked like what you describe. In DS's case, he had an infection from his too tight, dirty shoes. Speaking of which I need to go somewhere and find him a pair of 14.5's or 15's ASAP as his only non sports specific shoes have split along the entire front where the leather attaches to the footbed. you can see the entire front of his foot as he steps and it looks like you are pulling a sandwich apart! I ordered him shoes online, but he can't go to school with these and he has no other shoes besides soccer cleats and sparkly neon blue and silver wrestling shoes! I don't know who would keep shoes that BIG in stock!

This would be a gift for CR as I have an unopened jar left. I buy it at the local nutrition shop. She charges $18 for the same size jar as I see others sell for $27 - $38! It is active manuka honey, I think UMF 15+ (I have a tube of 18+ that has some left as well, but I have the kids take the tubes with them when they go to camp.)

speaking of Hawaii ---

you all know, when we are ON Maui (usually for six weeks to three months November> March sometime in there) -- IF we are in the big house --- we have three bedrooms and only use one ... then there is the enclosed "spa" room, almost another apartment ...

and you are all and severally invited ....

the only caveat? no smoking on the property

warning -- we are not on the beach, we are not near the beach (the closest one is ten miles away) --- but we can SEE it ...

We have an awesome health food store in Centralia. I'm gonna check there, thanks!

Oh good, there is one in Issaquah. I'll take a look. Sports Authority only goes that high on their website. We got lucky with his soccer cleats - they had a return from a web order at the local addidas outlet. We save any of our spare change in a piggy bank and open it when he needs shoes. Shoes that big are expensive! he went from size 11 to size 14 in a year or less! Now he's out of the 14. He wants a pair of cowboy boots! I'm going to get him sneakers or pull-on suede casual shoes. I don't need him towering over me any more than he is already. He must be 6'3" now as he recently grew taller than DH .... and he won't even be 13 until October!
