Didn't say before because I'm still processing: my cousin lost "a couple" of his chickens to the coyote sometime between me seeing them Friday and me running into his sister-in-law yesterday afternoon. They were all cooped up all day today, so I don't know which ones, or when. I'm feeling totally freaked out right now, although my chickens are in the coyote-proof yard and I just ran a check that the fence is all flush to the ground right now. I pushed ahead on getting the chicken coop together today, but I'm more than a little messed up because somehow even though I told my daughter and my hired hand to cut two equal short lengths and two equal long lengths the ended up with three different lengths, two of them way too long.

Feeling old and discouraged right now, and full of contempt for my abilities: how can it take so long to build a tiny chicken coop?

Which reminds me.... The 'Name My Chick Contest' that I started about 6 weeks ago was won by ultasol ! Congrats on winning a Starbuck's gift card! She guessed White Leghorn which was correct.

Just last week I picked up a really cool 150 lumens "Task Force" LED flashlight from Lowe's and it made a world of difference for me from my little 104 lumens LED light. I didn't like the hard metal end so perused the plumbing department and found some O rings that appeared to fit pretty well, so I taped them on with some electricians tape and now the flashlight has a cushier end to hold my eggs against. It's not so pretty but it really lit up the inside of those eggs. Now I can see them doing a little cha cha a week before they're due!

perfect!! Thank you!!!

I have tried looking for lumens on the flashlight and all I see is how many candles?? But, I will look specifically for that flashlight!! Thank you so much! I've looked at this one perticular egg a few different times using various flashlights and I just can't see well?? Can you take a picture of it?? My BF wants to see the O ring end!! lol!

Okay, here's my pics. I'm a little embarrassed to show this deal because it's not too neat, but I'm not much of a DIY'er. But it worked for me, and that was all I needed. I forgot to add that I picked up a couple of washers and taped them on the end too, to increase the "tunnel" for the light to go through and the O rings sat on top of those before I taped the whole mess together. I'm sure anyone can do a much neater job than I did! Oh, I looked at my receipt and the flashlight was less than $23

Close up of the parts I used on it. Also got a little case with the flashlight which would have been cooler if the flashlight actually FIT in it, but it's too long even before my modification.

Very cool! thank you!!! My BF asked me tonight, why do you have to candle eggs? he just wants to leave them there and if they hatch they hatch! I said, cause you need to eliminate the infertile eggs so you don't contaminate the rest if it pops!! Besides, I want to see the little chickies develop! And find out if what I'm doing is really working!! lol!

I'm right there with you, I still have to build the rest of my run, and then tear down an old coop to build a bigger better one, around here nothing gets done in a day, or a week, sometimes not even a month!!

We just do the best we can with what we have!!!
