TouchO'Lass :

Just in here for a quick break cuz I just SCORED 50 lbs fg DE for $25! Saw some at the F&S a couple weeks ago in Omak = $4 lbs for $20! Okay, so this will last me for YEARS, lol, but I have these 35 gal food grade airtight barrels, so storage is a wrap!!

Can't believe I'm so excited about dirt...

But is it FOOD GRADE DE ??? Many places will tell you it is but check the label!

I heard that there's a BYC potluck tomorrow. Does anyone know what time it is? I tried searching, but I didn't find much.

I thought I saw a Hamburg cockeral on Craigslist in Tacoma a couple of days ago? It wasn't a chick - the photo was a fully mature cockeral.

There was one a couple of weeks ago, that was gone when the woman I'm getting my hens from decided she could break up her flock; it was a shame because it was really close to me. There hasn't been another Hamburg on either the Puget Sound region nor the Portland region for a while.

hallerlake, thinking of you and your family through this afternoon: after this, find some rest, eh?

CR, yay for Michelle getting busted out of the old grey hulk in Seattle and getting down to somewhere greener. And yay hooray huzzah for jobs for money, as opposed to just work for the sake of being industrious and virtuous.

Off to glue some lam plates together for the coop!

Keeping good thoughts for you CR, hope that job is yours! Good news about Michelle - hope she continues to heal quickly. Too bad about MOT, CL. I wasn't online when he was little, but didn't his name indicate he was headed for the table? I think maybe it's a good thing I can't have roosters here, I think I'd be pretty afraid if we were attacked by one the one way MOT's been after you and DH.
4312, those little buffs are an adorable centerpiece. Wouldn't it be nice if you could just keep them little and cuddly so you could keep them around the house? They just make me smile.
So far both of the LS/Black Orpington X's are hatched. They look just like black orp chicks. When I got up this morning 2 of the Salmon Faverolles had hatched and one of the BCM actually hatched! Still waiting on 3 more Salmon Faverolles, (one more has pipped) and 1 more BCM. I'm looking forward to getting them all out of the incubator. At this point I can't tell the BCM apart from the LS/orp X. But they all seem lively. Today is day 21. It would be nice if everyone hatched by this evening.

And then I think I'm going to need more eggs. I'm a little worried about coop size. I only meant to have 4 chickens, but am planning for 8 in the next couple of months, but might accidentally be heading for 10 chickens at this point. I really think I need to keep one of my little mutts, especially since it was my very first hatched chick.

Better check Craigslist again just in case there's a super cheap little coop, you know, just in case.

Yep! I was concerned when I talked to the guy at Northwest last week cuz he hadn't heard about "food grade" and he wasn't sure. I asked him to go ahead and bring it from Brewster, and the first thing I noticed was the NSF stamp on the bag. (I used to inspect food service facilities, and Ntl Sanitation Foundation endorsement was a HUGE requirement for anything used in food contact)
Found this online: "EP Minerals Celatom is effective against fleas, ticks, lice, and other pests on dogs, cats, poultry, and any warm-blooded livestock. MN-51 is a food-grade product which is preferred for animals which tend to lick their fur."

Man, I'm hoping it helps with the tick situation, too!! I put Advantix on both my big dogs less than a week ago and pulled a HUGE one off one's back yesterday not 6 inches from where I dosed 'em!

May 14th Saturday is Stamp out Hunger Food Drive by the National Association of Letter Carriers.

Place a bag or more of non-perishable food by the mailbox and your carrier will pick it up and deliver to your local food bank.

Please spread the word!

Thanks!

Hi

I am looking for a large to extra large dog carrier to put the chicks in. Want to turn it into a coop till they are bigger with a small chick run. Can't really afford much right now but if some one has one they don't want any more I would be happy to have it.
