No, that's totally correct!

I've heard the box of rocks one...or a box of hammers. How about dumber than a sack of wet mice? Or crazier than a peach orchard billy goat?

Congrats! That sounds like a good hatch so far. So I'm curious what combination makes a sex linked olive egger?

I have a Golden Cuckoo X Black Copper Marans hen who looks like a golden cuckoo Marans covered by a Lavender Ameraucana Roo. The cuckoo gene will only be passed to the males. So the chicks are all black, but the males have a white dot on their head, similar to Barred Rock Chicks. Anyone want a barred Olive Egger roo? I now have 3 and don't need any. One is older, 3+ months. The other two are just hatched. All these olive egger babies are also split for lavender. The older roo and girls I have, have nice big muffs like an ameraucana. In fact, the girls look just like a black ameraucana if they inherit the pea comb! I got pure black am's from CL, and I had to band them all to tell them apart. The barred roo's will be really handsome! I also have 10 more of these in the bator scheduled to be locked down on Tuesday.

Interesting about the sex link marking. I don't suppose that marking would be true for a Golden Cuckoo Marans over light Sussex chick would it? I'm not seeing large white dots on either of these babies. And now CGG has confirmed the chicks parentage, and we've found the black orp had no part in it. The whole genetics world is confusing but fascinating to me.
Thanks for the information about your olive eggers!

I agree with SadieSue....this is so amazing it makes my head hurt. How do you know this? Is there somewhere on the internet to tell us these things? How do I know if I cross X with Y and the color is Z, Z is a female....etc.

Hey renart? Where did you get your chicks from? Looking good though! Watch out, they grow up fast!

We got these at the Poulsbo Cennex.

I'm not the only one that uses that phrase.

I've never heard it used in that context before...

I have always heard it as, "dumber than a cow pissin' on a flat rock."

Or "dumber than two bulls F'n"

Grew up in NW Pennsylvania, heard it used there like forever, and it seems to have stuck with me

Dont be disapointed if your ameraucanas dont lay blue eggs. Cenex gets there chicks from iether cackle hatchery or Ideal hatchery. I cant remember what one. but one of those. Easter eggers are great chickens though! Lay anywhere from blue green pink brown, ect. If you were wanting true blue egg layers, I can help you out. I have MORE than enough ameraucanas, 3 or 4 blue & black pullets. Or there are quite a few people here on the thread that could help you out as well.

My numbers exploded from 4 to 32 in 2 months time! lol
