I also live in seattle and am new to chickens. we got them two days ago. 2 americaunas (10 wks and 14 wks), a buff orpington (10 wks) and a barred rock (14 wks). we are very excited but a little nervous as the older americauna seems to be having some trouble walking. hopefully she is just stressed from the move and will settle in.

from Ethel, WA Also to help ya get started right. Notice there is no i in Ameraucana. Also if you got them from a feed store they are probably not Ameraucana. Most likely they are Easter Egger's. If you just want them for colored eggs they are fine. Many people have them. there may even be a chance that somebody could have snuck some into my coop. Please don't take this as I am putting your birds down. It is just that so many people are told they are getting Ameraucana and they really aren't.

Endoscopy done today.....
Now I know why I've been nauseous!

I have esophagitis from my mid esophagus down into my upper stomach. The lining is raw and ulcerated. I also have a fairly large hiatus hernia. A hole in my diaphragm that my stomach goes into and gets stuck.

CL-- The doc took some biopsies of my duodenum to check for celiac disease. Oh and something about Barrett's disease.... I have to do some research on that.

Oh and going into the place today all I could think about is your nanner pie!! I have to make one tomorrow!

Well at least we have some answers that will hopefully start me down the road to feeling better.

My sis drove me home from the procedure and said that I was flipping out about HAVING to get a slurpee!! LOL!!! I guess I was getting agitated with her and started crying because I wanted a slurpee so bad!

Thanks this is my first one and I got the eggs from TX!! so not sure what I'm looking at when I candle, so it will be interesting and I will do an eggtopsy on the ones that don't hatch.

My biggest tip is to look at the size of the air sac in every egg. Sometimes the egg is just so darn full, that it is hard to actually see the chick moving in there, so I go by the size of the air sac, especially at lockdown. The more you look at, the more you will know if it is the correct size for lockdown. In earlier candling's it's easier to see a blood ring or to tell that the chick isn't moving. It's a little harder at lockdown. Good luck!!!!

The air sac....I knew I was suppose to be watching this....I forgot. So, the air sac gets larger? What happens to it?

I am so sorry I ask so many questions...but I find this all so fascinating.
