Thank you!! I was worried tho cause I did add the sponge and I tried to do it quickly!! Not sure if it was quick enough although there is one that has gotten farther then the other three that only cracked the surface, they haven't broke threw and it's like they stopped?? I know....take a deep breath, my hygrometer with the sponge which was actually two pieces of a very flat sponge = to about 1/4 of a regular sponge is reading 61%, i think it must be off, I'm sure I put enough water in there and with the sponges...... I don't know

I just hope I was fast enough cause at the time I didn't know about sticky chick or shrinkwrap

I saw my first 2 pip about 8 am and took DD out shopping. When we returned about 8 hours later we found our first chick who was still quite wet so had only recently hatched. 2nd chick also hatched when we weren't looking about 2 hours later. So in my case it was 8-10 hours from "pip to pop". I'm sure it varies with hatches.

did you see just cracks in the shell and then more action later tho??

Congrats pettec63!
I'd not worry about things since they are hatching... if one gets stuck in the shell or the membrane sticks to them then add a little more warm water to bump humidity.

I just got inside... been working like a maniac in the dry weather to get things done. Also chipped in over at Alice's house... weeding and stringing the raspberries up.

I'm tired now

My arms neck and face are pretty burned and feel like they will shatter if I move too much.

But it is all worth it as it was for a good cause.

my face feels a little "warm" too -- though I wore a solid brim hat and had sunscreen on

got two sides of the new run with the fence wire stapled to the bordering ore boxes, and wired to the corner fence posts

got the pallet that the coop sits on, closed in so varmints can't get into run

with DH's help, got the pallet that the crate/coop sits on, likewise closed in

(managed to clobber my left ring finger with the hammer, pretty severe bruising, will probably lose the nail --- and I have to use a different finger to type with, so much for touch typing)

fence wire is laid out on the third side of the run but can't staple it until I frame in the sliding window/door opening for the run

and haul the old donated run/tractor out of there

tomorrow too I will wiretie the PVC trellis/roof on top of the fence wire, and make a decision whether to use fence wire for the run roof, or chicken wire

also will see if I can get DS to help haul that one huge piece of plywood out from under the brambles .. it's too heavy and awkward for just me and DH to do it (must be 6 feet square, maybe 8 feet)

might haul the pile of shingles I spotted, out from under trees and brambles as well

chicks had fun, we found a somewhat desiccated what-was-left-of a roasted chicken from Costco; tossed it in the new chicken tractor for them, they disjointed it and had great fun pecking the leftover tendrils from the bones

kept them busy except for their obligatory afternoon cuddle-and-nap ....

I was sprawled on a cot nearby, with Cheddar-cat curled up by my feet --- he seems to know better than to mess with chickens
