Illia, was it you who mentioned BLRW sex link breedings somewhere? I need to decide what kinds of hens I should be looking for for a pen with Ian; I'm unlikely to find a BLRW hen again and I'm interested in having a list of priorities and not accidentlally end up with hens that lay brown eggs, don't produce sexlink chicks, and the chicks that do result are... aesthetically unacceptable, shall we say?

I actually have a rational (ish) set of goals, but I'm not having much luck finding out what I need to know without working more than I have surplus energy for.

I planted them, they're the slowest growing of all my nightshades, but coming along. I've got tomatoes, peppers, and now, finally, my melons are flowering though. They're so freaky tiny though

I've NO experience growing my own melons but I do have plenty in Squash, so I'm honestly wondering how small melon flowers are supposed to be, because these are just hauntingly small - Too small for me to pollinate with ease.



I can tell the gender of my newborns because they're Cuckoo Araucanas, thus the white dot from barring tells me male vs female. I now have two girls, no boys, and still more eggs hatching out tonight.



Ahh, that's how... Okay, that makes sense. But I could still believe the rumor about you being chicken psychic as well.

popping in to say hi.
We got my large garden all dug out, rowed, waterlines down and covered.... only about 3 months late..

tomorrow we will plant the plants, work on the yard, clean things up and maybe finish digging the retaining wall trench.
Cement mixer is ordered and on its way. I can't wait for this shed project to be complete! then I can move both the canvas sheds out! and turn the frames into a greenhouse for my garden. I like the idea of having a 20x20 greenhouse to start plants way early and to have them keep growing late in the season.

Mom and I counted the chickens.... chicken math = very bad....
I only have 8 adults!..... but some 32 babies/starters.

oops

Good thing I have many buyers for pullets.... now to sell the 9 extra roosters....
