Forgive me for being so far behind...been bust since we got home.
made a big feed run for broiler feed, went to Walmart & did $200 worth of damage for everything from Toilet paper to sandals.........another 500 pounds on top of 8 bags of feed...got gas, had a nice man from california who ran out of gas needed a ride, so we gave him a ride, our good deed for the day, in a downpour from hell..............
Got home and unloaded some feed & half the Walmart stuff...fed, watered, answered 50 e-mails...........

Wow...with so many of you in my area and me being new at all of this I should schedule my very own personal coop tour at all of your houses in the Oly Lacey area before I try and build something!! How great would that be? :)

Someone mentioned over by Shipwreck Beads...yup, that is mere minutes away and my son is best friends with the owner's youngest son...talk about a small world.

Oh yes definitely - this is really valuable information. The more I learn, the better for my birds!

That's the issue I'm running into too....too many staggered hatches mean I have to buy like 10 bottles of Mareks.

Most of the other ones are okay for 4+ month old birds (or even adults) but the Mareks has be to given at 1 day old.

Not to mention you're supposed to use it within 1/2 hour.

The other issue is that once mixed, NONE of the vaccines are viable for more than an hour, tops!

Some of the others, you need booster vaccinations 3 weeks or so later to even make the first vaccine worth your while.

So then you're looking at another expense of buying MORE vaccine for the boosters, mixing it and then trying to catch & "shoot" 70+ birds in record time.

Hopefully, one day they will come up with a 4 or 5 way vaccine (like they have in horses) and one that can be stored!

I hatch staggered, and buy 4-5 vaccines at a time to svae on the shipping.
When I have 40-50 chicks in the brooder (ages can be a month apart) I organize and get my helper (DH) eady, alcohol swabs, needles, syringes, mix the vaccine & I catch & shoot & hand them to him & he puts them in a box.
We do 40-50 in way less than an hour.
Even still, so much is wasted.
