We put our Barnevelder chicks back out with broody CM hen last night but this time walled off the nest box which was too high for the chicks to get up. They have a large roost floor area, no place for a chick to get stuck. The hen was awesome to watch, she totally wanted "her" chicks back. She showed them the food, even broke it up for them. When she laid down the chicks were hanging off her woddles, picking on her face. We were dying laughing. She just pulled her head away. She was so calm with them. I was stressed & couldn't sleep last night worrying about them. I got up at 5:30am just to check on them. She had tucked them under her. 1 chick peeked out to see who was checking on them & then back under her. I might be able to relax now...maybe
Took my daughter out a few mins. Got to show her how Broodie feeds the chicks.
