sounds like my house

So funny, speaking of rats yesterday on here, and last eve at just about dark, DH is walking back up here from his 'fort' and saw a black "pear" run from under the hatching room, across a pen and under a coop.
So he went to work with the rat traps.
We have the occasional black woods rat..they have short noses & are a bit 'slow' if ya know what I mean.
They live whereever but have holes in the ground too.
They are not fond of peanut butter nor cheese, but really like ready-made chocolate frosting.
We tried everything and the frosting worked.

These black rats look alot like Mickey Mouse

Who can resist chocolate?

Warning: I have a shameful weakness for orange roses, so I may not be a reliable guide.

(Well, also red, pink, yellow, white, peach....especially peach...purple, and grey roses).

I LOVE all the old world single petal super aromatic types.
But I have a deep weakness for the 49's too............and I detest spikes & thorns, so have no roses..yet.

I love the simple grace of the singles and semi doubles, too. Plus they don't ball up and not open if they get wet.

okay all, I am here, safe and sound. All the babies made it. Just going to get settled in and then have to take my dad to the airport sunday morning. He is going in to have two stents put in his heart. Everyone keep their fingers crossed that all goes well.
Catch up with everyone later.

this is following the heart attack he had easter weekend. Hes been okay, just tired. I have to stay at the house with my mom, cause she can't handle staying alone. So we'll just pray he's in good hands as he'll be in Seattle. I will let you all know on monday.

get a cat!! I've got some of the best gopher huntin mouse eatin cats in the country!!! I have an orange male that rocks!!! He's young cat and he just sits and waits for the gophers at their hole!! I know with a JR they like to chase things so it probably isn't feasible there but, I'm telling ya a good cat or cats, (i've got 4) will whittle the population down for sure!!!

Although I would like to have a outdoor cat around, my father in law is very allergic to cats but not dogs. My brother in law is also allergic to cats & dogs but married my dog show sister & he does love dogs so he has to take special meds to be in our house. They don't have carpet in their house so he can handle living with a dog. We have carpet so his allergies go nuts here.

The other problem is my dogs don't really like cats. My Jack grew up with me bringing him to work where they had a shop cat, he would actually play with the cat. So he probably could be taught to get use to having a cat around. Not sure about the almost 9yr sheltie though or the 3yr cocker. The cocker isn't much of a big deal as she's not a big animal chaser but the sheltie is. A few yrs ago before the cocker, we had a stray cat coming in our yard so we'd open the door & the dogs would chase it out. Well one time the Jack caught the cat, boy did the Jack & I learn our lesson. Don't let them chase the cats anymore. Several scratches on the face & one very close to his eye, luckily i'm a groomer & was able to clip & clean up his scratches. That tom cat learned to stay clear of the backyard after that one lol. Of coarse now it'd be nice to have them back

yea, allergies are a bummer!! And I understand about the dogs, I was a vet tech and consequently have had my share of dogs and cats in my house, I did have a JR for a while too! The dog I have now is a terrier cross and somewhat timid, the cats have grown up around her and the chickens so they are really used to each other!! And our cats chase our dog too, in play of course, but, if I tell my dog leave it!! she generally does. Really, having been a tech I do worry about my outside cats, and I am very diligent, and watchful regarding other cats in my yard, of course everyone is spay and neutered and vaccinated so I do have an investment so to speak! lol but, I can tell you I have never had a bunch of cats that do the job these guys do!! They have mice and or gopher ever day or every other day!!! and an occasional bird mostly starlings. I hope you do find something that will work for you!
