I'm getting that one, blooms in SHADE!!! Smells nice too and is gorgeous!!! Thanks!

I need to say, since I've been linking to Heirloom, that their roses come in deep narrow propagation pots; I grow mint on in 6" nursery pots but that's because I've got almost pure sand here and the roots need a head start to get going: anyone with more organic material in their soil can plant directly into the garden and have the plants take off like rockets.

I was gonna say splash.
That is how the splash marans & ameraucana look when they hatch out..a silvery lavender color.

the silvery purple one is a serama, its drying off a steel grey color with no yellow. the orps are silvery yellow so I know those are splash. I dont want splash... the serama is anyones guess. dad is blue wheaton and mom is either black or chocolate so who knows!

Oh, that looks nice! Are the face boards pine? Pretty wood, anyway. I envy your power tool agility; my daughter keeps asking for a chop saw, which she learned to use in scene shop class, and this morning I wish I'd given in, because having to hand-cut about thirty-two miterjoints is not my idea of a good time (even though in my furniture-building phase I was a hard-core handsaw and chisel dado maker).

I have seen no mice since Zathras has been allowed outside. Nor rats, for that matter, nor rat sign, although my cousin up the hill has rats and I suspect they've just moved to a catless zone.

Will ravens take a chicken? We have those and crows here.
I also noticed a turkey vulture has found our house. I'm thinking they would take a chicken. Am I wrong?

I have never seen a turkey vulture kill anything.
Even a half dead deer, as long as it is still alive, they will back off & waite.
never seen a crow or Raven kill a chicken either.
It is funny to watch my flocks when a T Vulture flies overhead, they look, and go about their business.
When a hawk or eagle flies over at the same hieght, all the Cocks sounds the alarm, and all birds run into their coops, and you cannot see a chicken anywhere here.
The difference is the white triangle under the vulture's wings, and they have a longer thinner tail.
The hawks & eagles are solid colored & have a broad rounded tail.
How do chickens know what is what ?

I think, as efficiently as birds react to different kinds of avian predators, it must be hard-wired in, or at least the reaction to different shapes/speeds/flight patterns are. Vultures, as you say, are mostly ignored (although in summer, swallows join them in flight, possibly for fun, possibly because vultures have flies that attend them). Soaring birds (Redtails and Eagles) bring about hiding in shrubs or trees, and a constant gossiping chitter until they're gone; anything with a falcon outline is met with loud alarm cries and the air filled with wings in a "every man for himself and the devil take the hindmost" formation. It should be noted, hoever, that the general avian predator alarm call is a copy of the Accipterine (Cooper's Hawk and its kin) territorial call, and those birds are the ones we and our chooks need to take care to avoid: Sharpies will take small chicks, Cooper's are most dangerous to anything under two pounds, and Goshawks...well, "Gos" stands for "goose."

That's OK Kim I have a little OEGB rooster that sings the egg song. I think he is having a bit of an identity crisis or may be that is just what happens when a guy is forced to spend so much time with all the girlz. Uht o maybe I better be watchin out too!!

With that ruler there you are not going to be able to tell any tall fish (mouse) tales though.

I am going to search for one here, instead of buying & having it shipped.
If I find one, I will get you one too.

Cool! I'll ask Nels (owns nursery @ Mt Si) and see if he can get them and then I will pick them up for us. He just got a huge rose order inn, but they are all from Weeks.
