Yes there still are a few of us out there that seem to be throw backs from the pioneer days, me not as much as CL!! I do have some of the comforts of home redneck style, like ya know the double wide and the camper ect... LOL!
I'm very sorry your wife doesn't like chickens, it's too bad, they are quite fun to have around. We all have our "issues " when it come to our mates, mine is my boyfriend who is and has been for 23 years a truck driver by trade, he has logged many many miles! The last time we took our pickup and went to Vancouver, WA ....he spied a truck chain on the side of the road on the Oregon side, I almost went flying into the windshield even with my seatbelt on cause, he just had to go and get it!!! When he got back in the truck I said wait this has got to be a redneck joke, let me think..... if you think picking stuff off the side of the road is better than shopping at a thrift store!!! ........you might be a redneck!!!!

He was mad!!!!

I mean he got so mad at me, I don't think I've ever seen him that mad, but, he had followed that up with trying to pick up somebodies truck liner that had blown off between Granger and Wapato!!!! I laughed pretty hard, but, said I was sorry.... so I don't give him a bad time about it now, but, it does drive me crazy!! lol
and yes we would love to see the condo as soon as you can post the pics!

OK, here is the updated pics of the """Free Rare and Exotic" chick that the Mcmurray hatchery tossed in my order of Cornish Meaties.
Last time I got a white crested black polish..
This time it is this, what I THOUGHT was a simple PBR, but took a better look tonight, and this baby has NO COMB>
Is black & for all it's worth otherwise appears to be a PBR.
Legs a bit brownish, not all yellow.
Barring on wings apparent..no comb, no peas, no rose, no standard/ NO COMB!!!

Today has been rather challenging. Spent most of the day weedeating at the stables which caused allergies to really go nutz. Had to go to Patriot for chicken food and the price went up.

Got home and had another fight in the Bantam pen. I saw the whole thing. one of the RIR B had made a nest in the corner since there are 3 broody in the 2 nests. She was just setting there going to lay and the SBB kind of wanders over like nothing and then just attacks. I was so mad I one of the OEGB hens got in the way of a flying bottle of soda and was almost a casualty. Then after dinner I just wanted to get on here relax and watch a little tv. Great all of our normal stuff is not on for other S T U PID stuff. DW says lets watch AVATAR. She had borrowed it from Michelle. Less than 2 minutes in and I have no idea why everybody says this is such a great movie. IT IS A HUGE WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY !!!!! S T U PID SCI FI crap. And I am now 40 dayz with no tobacco. They say it gets easier BS. I could probably hold my own against well never mind. Just glad I have BYC to keep me from goping nutz tonight.

I'm going to say hi before I faceplant; it's been a really long day- Pentacost, which is one of the days we try to make it to church to avoid becoming C&E sorts, and a necessary grocery trip on top of the chicken-coop building activities, so we are still only about 90% of the way done with the hoop house, but the hardest thing we have to do now is get the binder wire off the last roll of hardware cloth. I'd probably be a lot faster if I ever built anything except prototypes... although the fact I couldn't pick up anything I dropped on the ground was an additional complicating factor.

Hope the pages I've got to read are all full of good news: it'd be good if other people had a nice restful, life-enhancing Sunday.

Will ravens take a chicken? We have those and crows here.
I also noticed a turkey vulture has found our house. I'm thinking they would take a chicken. Am I wrong?

I have never seen a turkey vulture kill anything.
Even a half dead deer, as long as it is still alive, they will back off & waite.
never seen a crow or Raven kill a chicken either.
It is funny to watch my flocks when a T Vulture flies overhead, they look, and go about their business.
When a hawk or eagle flies over at the same hieght, all the Cocks sounds the alarm, and all birds run into their coops, and you cannot see a chicken anywhere here.
The difference is the white triangle under the vulture's wings, and they have a longer thinner tail.
The hawks & eagles are solid colored & have a broad rounded tail.
How do chickens know what is what ?

Aren't turkey vultures carion eaters? Meaning its gotta be dead for them to eat it?
We have them here too. I have never seen them be interested in one of my birds. Hawks - now that is a different story.

I don't think either will take a live chicken. I know they will take small critters like mice. When brush hogging or mowing/raking hay there will be lots of them following ya.

I have never seen that white triangle. I do know that one quick way to tell if hawk or eagle is that hawk is light on the under side eagle is all dark. Also buzzards will only take what is dead. So if ya have buzzards circling ya better check to see. We had 10 of em out in our field once so I went to see what it was and I found the remains of some body's cat.

Here's a little funny for ya. DW was setting in the yard last summer. I walked up and she points to the sky and says what are those. I look up and there are 6 buzzards circling. I said BUZZARDS ya might wanna get up and move around a bit! So now that is the thing around here when we see em.

The reason there is no comb is because it is going to be a perfect chicken. A perfect chicken will be like my perfect head bald and have no need for a comb. See whether perfect head or perfect chicken god only made a few and hid the rest under hair or feathers which ever the case may be!
