Thank you so very much....now I need to ask a question and I hate to sound so illiterate, but:
What exactly (or where) are the saddle feathers? I am assuming the feathers on the back?

there are no stupid questions except for the ones you dont ask. yes saddle feathers are back feathers right in front of the tail. cockerels have longer pointy ones and pullets have short blunt ones. if you wing sexed your orps keep track, you may be right!! blue over black will give you 50% each color. blue over buff will give you who knows what, buff does not mix with the blue black and splash. it gives you strange unrecognized colors per the SOP.

Thank you for the web site and the information. I have bookmarked the web site. Since this is the breed that I am really leaning hard toward I need to learn all I can. I just love them.

I also need to get information for DD to learn about Seramas.

What is a good book for bird standards and information?

You should sell a hive to someone who wants to get started with bees

I first need to get them to a point that I know they have enough stores to get a ood start. By next year I may be working towards that. Since I will have enough hives that I can let some be honey producers and I could make splits out of some of the others. Speaking of did you find anybody over there who could / would help you?

Musta been some of CL's NO-SEE-UMS !!!!! Sorry I just had to. Hope ya got what ever it was and sorry to hear you got so many bites. I don't know if it works on bites but the plant plantain (sp) it's a weed is very good to make bee stings go away. We allow it to grow and look for it when out working bees just in case.

The large sword type leaf or the smaller rounder one? Or will either work? That is good to know!

Hey Hey there is another stranger from the past. Nice to see ya drop in and PLEASE feel free to come back and join us. Warning things move a lot faster in here now than they did when I last remember you here. Hope life is treating well. Come back and tell us about it. There are still a few of us "old timers" here and LOTS of new peeps. And even some that think if it ain't got webbed feet it aint right.

This one. It is commonly found on the edge of gravel drive ways. Crush it up and rub the juice on you should start to feel relief right away. Later in the season it doesn't have much juice and ya may need to chew on it just a bit to get it to juice up. When I am working bees I try to locate some in advance just in case. Of course I carry sting away too but prefer the natural plantain.

RFF What about Benedryl cream can you use it. Sorry I have never been preggers so don't know much about do's and don'ts .

I've not really looked around yet. With all the orchards around here, there must be loads of beekeepers, I just need to find some

Oh boy do I battle that little weed! There is also a type that has a long, pointed leaf with the deep veins. I'm thinking it would work as well but not positive!
