Any ideas on what breed or breeds these bantams might be?

I have absolutely no idea what these could possibly be.

I have some alders here you can do that with and a couple a fir trees that are interfering with my view. I'm wondering just how many I can get rid of before violating the King County land use ordinance, I may have to wait until they are taller and then limb them:

Ordinance 15053 prohibits most rural landowners in unincorporated King County from clearing more than 50% of their land. (6) Owners of large land parcels (parcels greater than five acres) are prohibited from clearing more than 35% of their land. (7) The remaining 65% of the land must remain unaltered in its natural forested or vegetative condition. These clearing restrictions became effective on January 1, 2005

Seems like overkill when I have a 10 acre greenbelt to one side, 5 acres on the other, 45 acres just below that, and the entire Seattle Watershed less than 1/4 mile up the road! In addition to that, the neighborhood CC&R's already had clearing restrictions:15' wildlife buffer around each property and 50' from any road (though the grant exceptions to that one pretty readily, though in trade you usually leave another section of the property uncleared.) We thankfully fall in the 50% clearing limit. Most of our neighbors have 5 acres or more. One neighbor bought the 45 acre tract of land so he could clear for a view around his property - it is very natural looking with a meadow now and a split rail fence. He gets lots of elk herds in his new meadow. He's a wildlife photographer, so that is what he wanted. After clearing what he wanted for the meadow he donated the remaining 45 acres for preservation.

I'm often liberal in my voting, especially when it comes to education, parks, and libraries, but this one just ticked me off! Why put the clearing restrictions only in UNINCORPERATED King County? Those making the laws should have them apply to themselves as well!

They're probably assuming the incorporated areas have their own regulations. I know it's very difficult to cut down a tree legally in Lake Forest Park. The restrictions in Seattle are pretty loose last time I checked.

My two crows are the same way and I think they may be related to yer's. Ya walk in and they are like ya just let go of a balloon and all the air is coming out.

Out of all the chicks I hatched from Chickielady, there is one out of 10, a little black Ameraucana that is completely wacko! Her name is hudini, because she can get out of ANYTHING! Speeking of that little nutcase, she got out again. Lucily she isnt hard to catch once the sun is almost set. But try to catch her before then, and she screams like your trying to kill her, and will do anything, go through anything, just to get away.

Gosh, I'm not trying to imply the CL's chickens are crazy

I was just wondering if it is a breed thing. She has some really nice birds, this cockeral just isn't one of them. My Cuckoos and Ameracaunas are fine.

According to CL, Yes. I will let you know in a few weeks!

Well there is definately boys and girls, but I wasnt 100% sure, as the pullets are already starting to get a little pin to their comb. Now the cockerals, they have been pink for quite some time.

Oh. And my Ameraucana cockeral has yet to crow. Makes me wonder if he wont start until I get rid of the extras. I thin Im gonna keep a blac AM cockeral along with the Wheaton. Or the BW that CCG has... Dont now whats going on there...

He sees me coming, so he can't be blind. I guess some chickens, like some people, aren't given a full deck to play with.

When I tried raising La Fleche, they were ALL like that. I gave them a lot of attention & treated them just like I did all of my other chicks. I hatched/raised them with my cochins, who from day one are always friendly and run towards my hands when I'd go to give them fresh water & food. And even from day one, the La Fleche would screech, bounce around, flap & have panic attacks when I would try to interact with them. As they got bigger, it got worse. They'd fly up & smash in the walls, my face, the ceiling, knock down their roosts, shriek, poop themselves, etc

It got so bad, I had to move them into a different pen (one without the window) because I thought they were going to break it when they'd bounce off of it.

The other thing is that they were so traumatized by me cleaning out their pens, the hens would not lay for a few days after I did it.

The last straw with them was when the rooster started attacking me, BAD. He would see me coming, sound the alarm--so all of the hens were flipping out, flapping & flinging all over--I'd wait for a second until they shot out the pop door in the run. Then I'd go in to fix the roost they knocked out and in would come the roo--wings dropped, side-steppin' at me and then he'd attack! Wings, spurs, claws, beak. Man--I booted that stupid thing so hard I'm surprised he did not die. Unfortunately, not only did he not die, he seemed even more ticked and would attack again and again. For as tough as he thought he was, he was pretty tender as Coq au vin after two days in the fridge and 12 hours in the crock pot.

The hens, I sold to some old lady who wanted them to range around her barnyard. Whatever. They laid HUGE white eggs and flew like ravens...so they might have done okay. Except for being completely stupid.

I call these breeds of chickens "rocket birds " and I had a few too, that is why I have Cochins and S Sussex, good luck with those Dun eggs by the way.

You deserve some good luck- it's your turn!

I think I've become partial to Wyandottes -- or Ameracaunas -- but Wyandottes first
