I think if a car load of women showed up in my driveway unanounced, I would run and hide myself! I get along with men better than women mostly. lol Im to much of a tom boy to handle being around the typical girly girls... To many horemones for me to deal with!

I can handle them in small doses.. heh.

My real beef is with parents not kids. Seems like more and more parents have forgotten the lessons THEIR parents taught (or maybe they never learned them?). I think bratty kids are a result of the way they are being raised. It also never seems to fail that if there is a kid who's going to be outta line, it will be out of line with me - and with no parent around to make a correction - and that drives me fudge-nuts.

Hi All,

Well I've had my young ladies for exactly 7 weeks now, so I'm playing with the idea of increasing the size of my flock by 50% -- that means going from 2 to 3!

If I do I want to get a pullet that's begun laying or is close. I've been looking on craigslist from time to time and keep seeing someone from Bainbridge Island advertising. So I wrote to them and asked a question. When the response came back they included a pdf file with advice. One of the comments was not to feed hens fruit because it delays egg laying. Does anyone know if that's true??? It's the first time I've heard it.

The name on the e-mail account was Sherif Safwat. Does anyone know of this person or his reputation?

I'm not sure what breed I want to get. I'm torn between getting a sex link (for the egg production) or something like a maran for the egg color. Do marans lay a lot of eggs??? Right now I have an EE and my pretty black pullet whose breed is yet uncertain (boy she's getting big!).

Any thoughts or opinions are heartily encouraged!!!! Thanks!

Here's my pretty Black Pearl, her feathers are very soft, much more so than the EE. She's also bigger than the EE. Her comb and wattle have grown noticeably since I took this pic just last week.

Happy birthday!

Thank you we had a great time at dinner. It was a new place and my youngest son ate things he's never tried before. I was a proud mom..

The looky loos may come back toward the end of the day. They may not want to carry something around all afternoon. We can hope.

I can always hope but since it is really not very big and most are only here an hour or so... Not bragging just saying for an idea I have the biggest "space" here. Here is mine before the others got here.

Nice set up, you need to have a sign with your name on it. Also maybe something about special orders if you do them.. Good color

Hey !

I know nothing about feeding fruit to pullets other than they like to eat it so I give it to them

My advice on getting a pullet. -- Find one from someone on this thread. All of us are chicken lovers, and our birds reflect that. I can almost guarantee you'd get a great bird. If you go to a larger producer, I think you increase the risk of getting something 'icky'. It happened to me and it will take me a year to recover from it.

I think your black pullet is a BO.

so were are you getting the strawberrys at? I want to do jam and not sure if there are any left now?

I've been buying them at the Farmers Market from ... I forgot her name, . She sells day olds at half price, grown organically. last time I only had 2 bead berries., and she threw in an extra half flat. 2 half flats = 20 cups of berries once I've cleaned and sliced them. Sometimes I pick at a farm in Carnation. I need to look them up. The gal at the Farmers market grows near La Conner, and her best jamm berries are yet to ripen.

Really,
PM me when she gets them in maybe I'll head that way to get some..
