How old are they?

I think the Barnvelders are around 22 wks old, maybe up to a week older. My cuckoo marans are roughly 26 wks old, so it could be them....will have to wait and see until they all start laying!

I got 3 Am's from CL that were all different ages. I'm guessing the oldest is around 22-23 wks also, but I may be off as that was just a guestimate. It may also be that my Lav Am has started laying, but she's almost a year. The girls tell me she layed while I was back east for 3 wks in March and then promptly quit when I got home, so I have never seen an egg out of her. I just moved her into my layer flock a few wks ago, and she seems to have taken a high seat in the pecking order since the move, so maybe she started to lay? So I honestly don't know for sure if it's her or CL's birds, but just assuming it's CL's cause I think my Lav Am is a dud.

I DO NOT claim to be the "resident professional" but from what I have heard you should NOT feed layer until they have begun to lay. I don't feed a feed with added calcium. I feed oyster shell seperate.

CR, thanks for the input. What is the feed you use, is it good for all ages/stages?

A white egg in a basket of colored eggs helps to make the other colors POP IMO.
Notice I said 'A white egg' meaning one, easily borrowed from a neighbor at picture time!

Yup. Been through there on the way to the Ice Caves plenty of times. We can whine about the rain all we want, but I will take it over oppressive heat and drought any day. Yes, we are lucky to be out here.

I actually helped build the boardwalk from the parking lot across the marsh at the Ice Caves. That is if it is still there. I know they have improved the parking area. Worked for years for the Forest Service. Said Granite Falls but actually we lived in Robe Valley where you drive through on the way to the ice caves.

Tell me more about the Ice Caves! Where are they? My kids would love that!!!

And welcome to our chatty little thread to the both of you!!!!

I grew up in Granite Falls!!!Well sorta- I went to Jr. High and High School there. And the Ice Caves are above Granite Falls ...just follow the Mountian Loop Hiway and you'll see the signs for the caves. I forget how far it is from Granite but its a beautiful drive. And the hike to the caves is so nice.I miss going up there to all the hiking trails and camping sites.I just dont have the time anymore. We spent alot of summers up in those woods while I was growing up.
And can you believe Granite Falls has a McDonalds???? So Sad...Lots of things are different up there....I was kinda sad to see the old Tigers Den was gone...They had the best greasy fries!!!

You remember the Tiger's Den? Do you remember anyone with the last name of Hubbs?

Go to Texas ... every grocery store had prices better than the dented can places here, and the produce looked great!

Are you out of your mind, Texas is more miserable than here. You could not pay me enough money to go to Texas this time of the year.

Hmm, My younger sister live there, I wonder.
