I use a dog crate to transport. Works great! I have the solid kind with wire windows at the top of the sides.

You may certainly have as many roo's as you would like! I don't know how to do the capon surgery.

Finally unpacked from a week of camping. Had a wonderful time at the DW's family reunion - the highlight of was a drive to Ethel to meet CR and his DW. While there, the DW and I got a special surprise. Broodytood was there! We had a great time talkin-chickin-stuff. I bought the wife a bell from CR so she can ring it at dinner time. We hung it up in the camp ground and rang it at meal time. It was a big hit.

The bad news of the trip is that the coyotes have found us and have taken a total of 8 birds. I'm sitting here waiting for them now, rifle in hand. I'm frustrated that the folks who live across the street can free-range, but it doesn't look like that is a good idea for me. There is some good news. As a result of going to CR's and seeing how other folks keep their chickens, and loosing 'her' bird, the DW has changed her tune on chickens. When I first started with birds, she was dead set against them. On the drive home from camping, she said; "You need to build a fence to protect my chickens." Then she quickly corrected her self, "our chickens" .. and then corrected her self again, "your chickens". So we chatted as we drove and she's on board now with having the birds and helping with them. I'm really glad

Ordered wire from CSNStores today - stopped on the way home at HD and got the lumber for a run. I should have two 20x20 runs completed (not covered) by the weekend. (Assuming the wire shows up on Thursday as 'promised'). She has also decided that we need more birds, once the run is completed. I'm very much in favor of that - and I can see a road trip in the near future.

Craigs list has been good to me as well. I've located two structures that will work well as coops. One is a coop

that the lady wants 100 bucks for. It has an attached, covered run and looks to be about the right size for 4 to 6 birds. I will go see it today. And there is a gentlemen who has a 4x6 playhouse and a HALF MILE of hog wire for sale -- cheap. I'm going to get that stuff too. Which will give me enough wire for a HUGE run. Once I have that wire, I can start taking down saplings off my creek bed and use them as posts.


So -- taking last week a day at a time, I might think I had a bad week. (Lost those birds) But when I look at where I was last week, and where I am now -- things are better.



I'm starting to hate my life a little less.

So since I've had a few people ask about baby names...

We have it narrowed down to 3 or 4 I like and DH doesn't really care either way.

So I asked DH not to say anything to anyone yet....(this was like February or March).

Of course--DH spills his guts to his mom! She's the LAST person I'd trust with any information!

So you can imagine my embarrassment when DH's 85 year old grandmother asks about "the name" we picked and how we got it.

I told her we hadn't picked out ANY name yet and we weren't going to until after the baby is born and we get to see her....and see which one fits her best.

So then DH's grandmother proceeds to give me a HAND-MADE QUILT with the name AUDREY on it!

Yes, it was one of the FOUR names I liked....but NOT the name we'd settled on or anything.

LOL Poor old grandma! Oh and I left out the part about her telling me that this was the last one she was going to make because her eyesight is failing her too badly.

That's what she told me right before she handed it to me.

She's made them for DH, his sister, all of the cousins and their children...I would guess 15 or so quilts, total over the last 30+ years.
