That sounds like a right good time!

I need to figure out ways to get stuff to CR but it'll have to wait until haying and fairs are over.

Julia, good possibility that Toni and I could stop by and pick up whatever is close to pavement/driveway

since you are not far out of the way we'd have to go to get to CR

target day so far seems to be Wednesday

Excellent. I will be ready. I wonder how my other three will react to this?

Are you seeing broken shells? I thought I had an egg eater but there was no broken shell or yoke on beaks. Turns out I had a chicken laying a super soft shell so when another chicken went in there steping on the soft egg it just broke. Young pullets can do this. It happened to one of my Cuckoo Marans. She got herself balanced out & all was normal after a couple of weeks. Just a thought.

Shannon

No shell. but a wet yoke colored wet spot that was egg shaped. Yesturday I had 3 eggs in the nest and found a forth on the floor all cracked but soft looking. I threw that out. Then went back later to get the other eggs and could only find 2. And a a wet spot in the shape of an egg. But no shell. so who ever is doing it is eating the whole thing.

I am planning on it. It ate another egg this morning

when I come home from work I will blow out a couple of eggs. I haven't figured out who is doing it.

Add food coloring to whatever you put in the eggs to find out who your culprit is. I used dawn dishsoap for my egg eater, that was 2 years ago, and she hasn't touched one since. Chickens can't taste "hot" and often like mustard, or so I've been told.

Thanks I'll try that.

Welcome from a northern neighbor! Chickens aren't birds... they're girls, ladies, roos, hens, pullets, sweeties, devils in disguise, entertaining, obsessions, too good to pass up, chooks, chickies, anything but birds.

Well, i guess since they aren't birds... they can't be on my do not like list..

I throw some of mine in now and then.

mine love it, they also drag some of it into the nest boxes, which have shredded paper in them

edited to add: true as long as the run stays DRY ...

my run is "mostly dirt" so the drying-out grass clippings make it easier to rake the run clean (to put in compost bin); the grass catches most of the poo

my run is entirely roofed over with a tarp, with solid walls up 16 inches from the ground, so it stays dry, except for a couple of corners where a drenching rain doesn't fully drain into the ore troughs

but wet grass .... rots and mildews ... if it stays damp for more than a couple of days (on the wet side here)

We have yellow cab here also. So a fantastic winery and cab service

I presume that the OP meant cab as in Cabernet ???

Nope....meant Cab as in vehicles..taxi cab.

Although a nice cabernet is a thought too.

mmmm -- those whites sound delicious, and I occasionally drink a red wine with, of all things, lamb ...
