My DH and I took our DD to the Seattle Aquarium today! Was a blast and she did great for being as young as she is. Didnt throw a single fit until we got home. lol She was most excited to see the Octopus, but then when we got up to the tank she was afraid of it! lol She went into giggle fits over the puffer fish, freaked out a little bit when she touched an anemony "sp?" got to hold a starfish, was amazed by the sea horses, and we couldnt get her out of the under water dome. Stopped at Red Robin for lunch out on the pier, then to the old curiosity shop, got her her first pressed penny. Then came back home. Its been a long day, she still hasnt napped, but is amazingly being good. Now Im cooking dinner, waiting for my DH to get home from playing disk golf, and just generally relaxing.

I really hope that everyone was able to enjoy today! It was a wonderful day, couldnt have asked for better!

Oh and after a month of not laying. My silky finally started laying again!

Still no blue eggs, and no crowing from any of the 4 remaining boys. I added 3 more nest boxes to the coop yesterday, and I do see signs of someone sitting in two fo them! So heres hoping that I get to see some pretty blue eggs soon!

Im also wondering if the reason I havnt heard a crow yet, is because there are so many boys? Is that possible? I really need to get rid of 2 cockeral, and only keep 2. But its SO hard to choose who to keep. I know the LS/cuckoo marans needs to go. He's a little booger, and I really dont like him. But the black AM, and the splash AM... I just dont know who to keep in with the layers... I cant keep 2 roos in with 4 layers, that wouldnt be fair to the girls... Guess I will just have to get some pics of the two and see who has better type, and other peoples oppinions on them... Cause they are both sweet as can be, the black cockeral rides around on my shoulder. I just don't know...

Today was nice in terms of food though - Got to pick my first homegrown melon from the greenhouse and eat it. This melon shown below is a "Luneville's Melon." Very rare french variety. I was honestly so afraid I'd cut it and find out it was unripe, but, it actually was overripe. The flesh melted like cotton candy on the tongue! It was very sweet, very much a cantaloupey flavor, definitely better than storebought, but not the best melon I've had. We have a couple slices, the rest will be turned into Melon Sorbet.

And this is tomorrow's dessert!

An Orangeglo Watermelon, it's an orange fleshed watermelon with amazing fruity sweet flavor. This is our smallest one we've ever had, weighing in at about 7 lbs. Normally they can max at 40 lbs.

Yum!

My June bearing strawberries are finally ripening, but I have such a heavy slug infestation that I picked all the berries and gave them to the chickens.

So sorry- we're only a month and a bitout from loosing Zathras, and no matter how distracting the kittens are, the absence is still noticible.

We had a light drizzle at 9AM, but nothing after.

Thanks! That's about when and what it should have been.

I'm sorry. I know some cats really enjoy going outside, but it makes me nervous, and I don't have nearly the predators you do.

DS9 was my favorite. Though I prefer Picard to Kirk.

I would have to agree...but I personally think Picard is gorgeous. Love the accent too.

Kind of short, but yes, attractive.

Mmmm. I love cabbage rolls. Cept I'm the only one in this family that even likes veggies so really miss the cabbage rolls. I'm gonna be eating these peekles by myself!

Corn and Green beans are all this family eats. The 2 things I don't grow. They don't know what they are missing. Ahh, roasted beets with scallions and Garlic Mustard vinegrette, grilled summer squash, broccoli with cheese sauce, Portugese Kale soup, Leek and Potato soup, Tomato Pie, Tomatoes and cottage cheese, Steamed Turnips, Cucumbers with red wine vinegar and sour cream, Roasted Brussels with bacon and shallots! The list goes on. This family doesn't know what they are missing. I just make small amounts for myself and let DH buy KFC. I do have one son who will eat salad. Yeah! I have to say though DH makes mean enchiladas! I like those too.

Darn, those sound good!

yes, we haven't seen Cheddar in over a week now

he's done this before, just gone for a week or two, but I worry, especially when I hear red-tail hawks screaming

I'm hoping he's okay, but my heart is kinda heavy anyway

so -- hugs to you, I know how tough it is to lose one without any warning ...

ah yes ..... Tribbles

I remember the fuss about those and about David Gerrold's story, since many remembered the story by Robert Heinlein about the "Martian flat cats" (The Rolling Stones??? ) which those Tribbles strongly resembled ... Heinlein himself finally pronounced that he himself was simply retelling the "rabbits in Australia" story -- that it was not an original idea with him, but that the fact that both flat-cats and tribbles PURRED, was a little close

not so much a Trek fan (though I enjoyed all the series, and really liked both Scotty and Mr Spock) -- but a long time SF fan -- introduced to that genre by my older cousin when I was ten or eleven ... and wish I lived in some of McCaffrey's worlds

Pern Dragonriders

I am excited about the John Carter of Mars movie that should be out next year. I just hope they don't muck it up.

X2
