I just attempted to use the old juicer that mom gave me when I visited last month. The pulp bowl was not tall enough, and I sprayed nearly my entire kitchen full of carrot pulp right after I got done cleaning the kitchen! It is on the floor, stuck to the cabinets, shot across the island to the dining table on the other side, all over the clean dishes drying in the drainer.... uhg... All that and the kids won't even taste the juice (carrots plus blueberries and celery from the yard - I tried frozen strawberries, but they just jammed the juicer.

Ain't that the truth! Just be careful - you never know how many of those pesky authority type persons are watching this board to catch us out on our not sticking to the RULES.

Pretty soon we won't be able to do anything at all without a license of some sort. Last year I did a website for a friend, and later, they gave me a couple of goats as a thank you. Now, technically that "could" be considered a barter, which is taxable. I just think of it as doing a favour for a friend

Forgot to mention: my redecoration of the Hamburg's bed seems to have been to their taste, as there were two eggs in the nest bucket this morning. I haven't gotten them out yet; as soon as this cool-down period is over, it's next on the list.


It's a loooooonnnnnnng list.

i am SO hoping they make the Pern books into movies.. if done right, they would be spectacular.... or even the harper hall books.. I read and reread all those books till my copies were dogeared.

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card

Best Si-Fi book ever. The rest of the books in the series are good, but don't compare to that first one. Except for maybe Speaker for the Dead.

Thank you so much for the tops, VelvettFog and Totalcolor. It sounds like, either way it's not too tough to sell chickens once you find your market. I have a hunch I'll be the biggest chicken around though and just sell them live. It's a great tip to advertise at a market where people are more likely to be up for doing their own butchering. I guess my only beef (so to speak) would be worrying that creatures I raised in a humane fashion were possibly be dispatched in a not so humane way. That's the only plus I can see to doing it myself.

I pulled a lot of lemon balm to give Elvis a clean floor to his coop and he's eaten most of it already. Well, I know another reason I need to free-range ASAP, don't I!

I've also been pulling the dried berries off the Indian-plum and Oregon-grape bushes, they go for those too -- will fly and flutter and try to hover to get them off the bushes themselves ... I yank down the higher stuff

they like clover too, though I wish they would eat more of the yellow Japanese weed rather than going for the red and white clovers

they don't like sage, I found that out ! thought some of that since I have both standard and purple varieties, would give the run a nice fragrance, but they kicked it right out through the wire into the surrounding ore boxes

may try rosemary or basil instead .. I don't have any but a friend has lots and I could go pick some
