I have to laugh at the photo with the collapsable rake: one of the great chicken tools, right up there with a salmon net. Mine is living down by the young wyandottes, who play soccer with their food dishes and one of whom bites me if I'm late with water.

Aren't those rakes the best? Love it. I got the fish net when I came over to Monroe in the spring for the show. Paid $40 for it....I would love to have more. It keeps out the wild birds great. I love it and my rake. Good chicken tools.

I've never thought to use my adjustable rake for chickens.

See isn't that just awful. Why should your BIl have been put in that position. The owner should have known better. You do what you have to to protect health, family, and property.

It's one of those things that I remember and then think "that sounds like something out of a horror movie." The dogs belonged to some people who had just moved into a McMansion up on the ridge (I've taken Hallerlake through there to look at the ridiculous lack of landscape design and distinguished architecture) in a neighborhood with covenants against building fences or kennels, who'd "moved to the country so their dogs would have room to roam." My way of looking at it, if you want your dogs to roam the countryside, use your money to buy a good chunk of countryside and fence your dogs in, don't buy a 5000 sq ft three bedroom four car garage house on a half-acre lot with no fences and let them roam land you don't own.

I don't remember going through there. You must have gone with someone else.

AMEN!

When they lose enough dogs to traffic and other accidents, maybe they'll change their minds and habits.

Just got done eating this Tomato Pie I made last night. First time with this recipe although I had some last weekend at a chicken get together. It's tomatoes layered with cheese and a mayo, vinegar, dill and scallion mixture (I also added an egg)and thinking it would be much better with a 50/50 mix of tomatoes and Green Chiles. Mmmm, I also have some Anchos in the garden. Think I'm going to make some authentic Chile Rellenos tonight with homemade salsa. Chiles and cheese together are the best!

nope, not a Manx

bobcats have been known to breed with domestic cats -- some of those are the foundation stock behind the cats being bred as "pixie bobs" ... the breeders call the crosses "Legend Cats" since apparently no one has actually SEEN the matings, merely the offspring

(one strain of which originated right around here --- and that breeder really wanted Rug for her breeding program but he had already been neutered before he adopted us ... just showed up during a storm one night; one of our neighbors had been feeding him but quit because Rug sprayed on everything)

am sure this one was part bobcat because of his very large and muscular hind legs, his "chops", and his personality -- he walked like a wild cat (not a feral but a true wild), was intensely devoted to two of us and would not speak to anyone else (hid in the brambles when he wasn't right with us in the house) --- and his coloration was unusual, basic orange tabby BUT with aquamarine eyes --- not Siamese type blue, not white housecat type blue -- only other cat I ever saw with eyes like that was a cougar

Oh, it works great. Smaller poop....make the tines thinner...bigger poop...bigger openings. Works great. Need to smack a rooster in the head because he just attacked you...it is right there...swing away.

I wonder if it would work to build a "crawl space" under your coops, and install the kind of heat tape used to keep pipes from freezing? or look into what they sell as "radiant floors"

or get a Brinsea EcoGlow -- those are usually sold for young chicks but can't see why it wouldn't work also as a roost space for banties

Where does the new owner of his mom live? I would love to have another baby from her.

I would just be thrilled to bred her to Dun Goin Steady:

I can see the facial resemblence Scottie has to his mommy......

What an awesome picture of him! Brings tears! I need to look up Snickers (thats Scotties mom)mom to see if she still has her. She lives in Spanaway and I lost the phone but still have the address so would have to drive over there. Funny, the week after I sold her I contacted her with regrets about selling her and asked if I could at least rent her uterus. She never called me back. I guess that would be a no.

Wow just realized thats not him! They look so much alike!
