I got a pretty little lavender Ameraucana from Pips & Peeps last spring. She's been laying some nicely colored blue green eggs. Unfortunately, now that she's free ranging, she's decided to lay them in a spot under a bush in the garden. At least it's the same spot everyday, but I feel like I'm on an Easter Egg hunt everyday crawling around and looking for colored eggs.

Don't know if Pips and Peeps has anything available right now in lavender, but she was nice enough to bring my chicks to the show in Monroe last spring. I'm guessing she'll be going to Stevenson this fall too?

I have Lavender Orpington eggs available. I think RonB might have some of these chicks also. He hatched 4 out from eggs from me a few weeks ago. Maybe he has fallen in love with them now and is keeping them? You could check with him. Or let me know if you want Lav Orp eggs. I have 3 hens and a roo, but they are molting pretty hard right now, so I could probably only do a small amount.

I am contemplating possible offering up my Lav Orp flock for sale. I really need another pen before winter. I have the flock mentioned above, plus a trio (one cockerel + 2 pullets) of split black Orps which are the first generation of crossing my lavenders with my black English Orps. You could pair the Lav Roo w/ the split pullets and the Split black roo with the lavender pullets and you will hatch out more split black and lavender chicks. If anyone is really interested in these, please PM me.

Your lavender Orpingtons are beautiful! That would be a nice lavender bird to add to a small backyard flock.

I had a

moment here. My landlord called, to talk about the extra pet clause (heh). She asked, "How many chickens were you thinking? About four?". I figured I'd be pressing my luck to say eight (even though that's what Seattle allows), so I said "Oh, about six or so". Her reply was "That's about what I thought" - and so now the lease agreement says up to six. How annoying. And to top it off, she's now very interested in buying a house for sale on the street behind us, so we could be neighbors.

Questions on the Stevenson show in October. Is it the weekend of the 15th & 16th? When is coop in/coop out? Haven't been to a Stevenson show yet and trying to plan ahead and figure out if this show will be doable for us.

Were you wanting an Easter Egger or a true Ameraucana?

Doesn't matter.

yes, if they were "Ameraucanas" from Meyer --- they'd truly be classified as Easter Eggers anyway

my EEs, when they came from Privett to Del's F&F where I bought them, were designated "Americanas" ... and that's what we are gently hinting at ...

remember, Dana just hatched out a bunch of eggs from my flock .... could be two more coming in the next day or so

and Dawn has nine more of mine under her broody ... those may wind up being the foundation flock for Dana's friends instead

when they're that young, there is a HUGE difference in size between less-than-week-old and three-week old chicks, and a considerable difference in the temperatures they require too

if you have the room to rear them separately until they are four to six weeks old or so, it's do-able -- but awkward

It is that weekend. I usually coop mine in Friday night so they have overnight to settle in before judging starts on Saturday. You can coop in early Saturday morning too. I think they have to be all cooped in by 9am. The show catalog should be out any day for clarification. Coop out is Sunday after awards, etc, you can usually coop out by noon or so. It's SUCH an awesome show!! By FAR my fave that I've been to!
