Olalla

Since you're from Olalla, you may want to wait until we have our South Sider's meet up in Tacoma. I'll try and plan one for mid-week sometime in the next couple of weeks. Jen? Jbugged? (Where are you BTW?) ZGoatLady? Kaneke? Stumpfarmer? Let's pick a date - Wednesdays are best I think. We'll meet at the wine shop - Vino Aquino @ 4417 6th Ave in Tacoma sometime around 6 PM?

Im here bet late than not.
I got called back to work while I was driving yesterday, my son was at the hospital.. He fell down our flight of stairs.

He is ok, or at least not in the hospital still.. By poor boy..
Id love to meet up but not sure when, with work being like it is its really hard to plan anything thing till next month. I have to take what time I can to make up for them taking 12 1/2 hr from me a week. I know that doesnt sound like much but when your work part time its a lot!

ya thats close enough for you to feel it right?

It's north of the Seattle Fault and east of the subduction zone, and the shake map shows weak shaking as far away as False Creek, so some people as far away as Forks, North Seattle, et'c should feel it. WS-DOT is sending engineers to check the Alaska Way Viaduct, which basically straddles the Seattle Fault.

Didn't feel it myself.

Usually the people who feel a quake at a distance from the epicenter are on saturated ground (hallerlake is close to a lake and close to the water table) so I'm not surprised. It's really a long way away, and West Coast quakes don't propagate over long distances the way the Virginia one did because we don't have the kind of coherant geology they have back there.

(Have you ever read John McPhee's Assembling California? Great look at why the west coast does not ring like a bell, among other things).

another really interesting read was "The Last Days of the Late Great State of California" .. novel by Curt Gentry

having survived a number of earthquakes while sojourning in California, a few here too, and even one on Maui (epicenter just off the Big Island coast) --- I would say that .. no, the West Coast does not ring like a bell, it GRUMBLES

I'd rather go through an earthquake, though, than a tornado ... survived one of those in Oklahoma and it was NOT fun, though since we were the only brick house on the block, we had only water damage from the torrential rain, which at one point must have been more than three feet deep, as it was seeping under our front and back doors ...

The fitting and showing for the little guys was first. This poor little girl had a DUCK that was bigger than her. The judge had finally had enough of it getting away and Dad helping and poor little girl gonna get hurt. Judge had little girl's dad put duck away, and he turned around and grabbed a bird out of a cage that was nearby....It was ADAM!!!!!!

Alisha and her blue ribbon = good job. So proud of you. Now you have to stay at the table to see who gets grand:

I know the thought going through Alisha's head right now is: "What the heck is that giant Purple Ribbon for?":

Oh, and by the way, Alish and Adam got GRAND CHAMPION fitting and showing...for her age group.

They made it alive- 2 looking pretty puny but breathing. My heart can't take much more of this! It's just so upsetting not knowing where they are or if it's cold or hot or what. I wish I had another option. Last year someone shipped me 2 birds Priority Mail. (Actually, I don't know if that's even legal- but he did.) They made it in 3 days- the same thing as my birds with Express Mail at 4X the cost. It just doesn't make any sense. If anyone cares enough to ship Express- whether it's live birds or paperwork for some million dollar corporate account- the point is that the expect it to arrive quickly and are willing to pay for it. My local post office refuses to accept birds at all. I have to drive them downtown to the main office. I've spoken to the head of the Washington office, who tells me any PO is required to accept them, but they just turn me away at the door. It isn't worth the fight, so off I go. I wouldn't mind at all- if they'd actually deliver them in a timely manner.

See if I were closer I would jump right in the middle of this and whoever is aparrently refusing to do what they are supposedly required would not be very happy by the time I had them sent kickin rocks. And then I would continue to go up that ladder. This is why they can set on thier hands and draw nice wages. WE THE PEOPLE need to take control back.
