Interesting. I think mine all have tail feathers, but I'll have to look at each more closely now.

"feather sexing" kind of depends on the variety and strain of the chicks ... my little EE chicks displayed a difference when I bought the seven of them, but that's not to say that their OFFSPRING will show the same effect

the dark nonchipmunk chick, who turned out to be a roo, initially had much shorter wing feathers that first couple of weeks, and a much shorter, sparser, and stubbier tail ... than his six flock mates

so it might be an indication, or on the other hand it might not ... there are lots of posts on BYC about feather sexing

There is nothing like sitting outside watching the chickens, catching up on BYC and waiting for my stuffed peppers to come out of the oven. Life is good right now! So very peaceful!
Have a great evening everyone!

My EE roo was also dark and did not have the chipmunk look to it. He also took longer to feather out. Pullets tend to feather out quicker.
But that is not a 100 percent way to tell. But probably pretty reliable for those of us who are learning as we go.

Robin, why are all these people saying you have such a great setup?!

I can only assume, at this point, that the HUGE comment was about the melons.
I have not published any photos about any of my coops.
I have posted several pics of our house we are building.............

But yes, I DO have a great set up on chickens & turkeys.

And there was someone 'hiding' in the background that would not "go away" despite how many snaps I took, at least until I finally took HIS picture, then he went happily along his way...
and once again I am pressed for time, and have to serve dinner AND close coops.

Lyda is doing extremely well.

We are also looking for lino flooring for the house now, etter to put it in now than later.
AND uncovered the BIG boat with the 302 V-8 in it to go OUT in the ocean/Tokeland after salmon.

Anyone coming to help build MUST have a fishing license AND be willing to GO fishing.
That includes foul weather gear, a thermos (I will fill it), pole (for salmon/steelehead, and their preferred gear!
