According to my friend, the Brabanter formerly known as Hannah, now known as Lacey, has laid her first egg. Hannah was a week or two older than the Brabanters I kept, so I should be getting eggs from them soon.

Can't help you with the siezure thing. Can commiserate with you how much money we are willing to spend on our pets. Just dropped $915 on a vet bill for procedures including an endoscopy to look in his throat and esophagus. He has been trying to cough up a lung for the last week, but everything looks healthy in there. Next step is ultrasound of the throat to see if there is something pressing in from the outside making him cough. He is so peeved at me for taking him to the vet two days in a row and leaving him there ALL day. Not sure what is gonna happen. He is my baby and I am really worried. So I feel for you C4G.

I am so sorry you are dealing with this too. We love them, but wow...We have friends who spent $20,000 on their dog. Heart surgery at WSU and it still died a year later. And they really couldn't afford it. Now the owner has leukemia, and they are in financial trouble.

It is so hard to know when to say "enough". I hope they can figure out how to make your baby better. How old is he?

Yeah, I just got a phone call and they told me that I should meet with an internist who will look at all that has been done so far, and tell me what we should do next. Ultra sound $370, but. Not very diagnostic in this situation, or a CT, which will cost around $1100. And I found out that they didn't do a full blood work up. I am so upset, and feel so helpless.

ETA- We haven't even started to treat him yet for whatever IS wrong!

we are dealing with a similar issue, DS's dog has been having cluster seizures for a couple of years now

he'll be fine for a couple of weeks, then have full grand mal seizures, two to six within a day, then he will appear to be fine until the next session

medication has not controlled them ... keeping him VERY active, chasing a ball, seems to help

he's had a full vet work-up and they couldn't pinpoint what was wrong (DS handled it so I don't have full info, just what he told us)

it isn't his kidneys, much different from what you report; this appears to be purely neurological (though yes, he does lose control of bladder during the seizures)

so all we can offer is hugs ... I've had issues in the past with neutered Siamese and urinary blockages, so I know how heartbreaking it can all be ...

Those sound wonderful - I know there are some shows coming up in the near future some folks are planning to attend. Various other meetings of sorts and I thought the Vino Aquino meeting went well, so I think we should consider another one of those maybe? I'd like to see more of our locals attend - I know it's hit or miss with our schedules, but it's always fun to visit with friends!

Yes, I did! It's dangerous, this forum. You guys are professional enablers, too! All these pictures of beautiful birds and lovely coops.... it puts dangerous ideas into my chickenless head.

So not only am I in love with Faverolles and Ameraucanas, I discovered the Belgian D'anver. My husband is Belgian, so he is especially enthusiastic about this breed. There really is something about those bearded birdies.

Thanks all for the warm welcome! I hope the meetups went well!

Welcome to the WA thread! I think the South Sounders meetup was nice. Pretty sure those rowdy Northerners had a good time too. Do you have a coop up yet, or are the plans still in your head? I love the birds you mentioned, I currently have 2 Ameraucanas which are sweet girls and dependable layers. In May I hatched a few Salmon Faverolles from eggs I got from Cloverleaf. GORGEOUS girls, (IMO anyway, but of course I'm biased) and so funny and friendly - I only planned on keeping one pullet but am finding myself hard pressed to give either of them up! They are 17 weeks old and I think should be laying before too long. I'm thinking of adding a couple of other breeds to my mixed flock though so may end up selling one of my pretty SF's to make room. If you're interested, and IF I find the strength to give one up I could always PM you and let you know.

Here's a few pics I've been meaning to show off anyway. Whenever I'm out in the yard either with a camera or treats, they are among the first to RUN to me. I do find that they are the biggest camera hogs though. As soon as I take the cap off the lens they are front and center exhibiting that curious tilt of the head. They have the prettiest full beards, and I love their body type!

Love these girls!
