Yes, it's raining here too. I had put plastic over the wire run connected to the mini coop where Whitey and her chicks are. I just ran outside to staple it all down so the sides are mostly protected. The chicks still aren't fully feathered so I'm worried about them. When I went out there Whitey had them pretty well covered and they do have shelter. It seems like it turned cold really quickly this week.

Sunny here.

I have a rooster I need to get rid of! FREE!!!

He's a spring 2010 hatching I got from someone off Craigslist about mid-August 2010. He's been down at my "Green Mile" coop since last November when we discovered "she" was a "he" and, at that point, had absolutely no desire for a rooster.

My brother was supposed to make all the chickens down at the GM coop into freezer chickens in exchange for the fresh organic eggs I was giving him. Well, he hasn't gotten around to it at all (almost 1yr later) and I've finally decided he's not going to. Not happy about that! So I'm incorporating the GM gals back into the flock when we get our new coop completed and will let them retire at leisure, but don't want to put this guy in there with them too. I already have a rooster (Iowa Blue - spring 2011) I've decided to keep.

I'm not picky if you want to keep him for your flock or if you wish to put him in your stew pot. Your choice! He is the proud poppa of 7 successful hatchlings since August 20th.

If interested, please PM me!

oh, and for those who weren't at the south-sound meet-up, Julia took a dozen of my hatching eggs too --- either to tuck under a broody or to fire up her BIL's Sportsman incubator ....

with all these chicks hatching out, we should be able to infer what genes this flock of mine are carrying ... I didn't know, until Illia mentioned it, that many of the hatchery EEs are carrying Columbian genes (even if they LOOK like ordinary gold duckwing types)

Cousin, not BIL: BIL is the mechanic/pig farmer. I'm holding them until this afternoon because Sylvia laid an egg Thursday and I'm hoping for another.

Julia, would be nice to get a BLRW or two, y'know?

Ok I have to vent! My sister is driving me up the wall! My daughter and myself were invited to the soft opening for a petting farm out in bremerton. I originally said I would "try" to attend, depending on how I felt and DD's nap time. Well my daughter is sleeping and Im having heart palpetations "sp?" Now she is hounding me because the soft opening has been a bust. They have had 2 kids show up, and somehow that is MY fault! I am not feeling up to the 40 minute drive out to the farm, I do not want to wake my daughter and make her sleep in the van! GRRR!!!

Its not my fault that they picked a stormy drizzly day, and the same day that one of our major towns in holding their anual kids day! its also NOT my fault that they didnt advertise until last night!!! I have a responsibility to myself and my daughter, and I dont see how dragging her out in the cruddy weather when she is sleeping is being responsible! Not to mention the way I personally feel!

Sorry, Stepping down of my pedestal now.

she knows she dropped the ball
and did not think it through when scheduling this (or did someone else schedule it and dump on her ?)

she's trying to make herself feel better by trying to lay blame on you

don't let her !!

you take care of yourself and DD, as you are obviously doing

tell her if she were in your situation, she'd do the same thing you are doing ... it is NOT a good day to go driving; I wouldn't be surprised to find tree branches across the roads

My sister really can be insuferable, and I know it will be a long time before I hear the end of me not going. But I just dont feel right, and I have no clue what to do about it... I know I have an enlarged heart, and more strain is put on the heart when pregnant. So Im really trying to not over due myself today.

one more consideration -- unless the animal being petted are in an enclosed and well insulated building, it's not that great for THEM to be exposed to the stormy weather

especially being slightly stressed by visitation by strangers

my chickens are smart, they're snugged up in the coop even though they have access to the run ....
