I'm so glad the two of you came! I really enjoyed meeting you, what a fun time. I think next year we will have to get a big group camp spot somewhere in the middle of the state so we can all go there - All Washington BYC people I have met are wonderful!

I just dragged myself out of bed. All the kids who spent the night are still here. They tried sleeping after watching "Chicken Run", then got into my old National Geographic collection, scared themselves with an old issue on pre-historic, giant toothy sea creatures and convinced themsleves that the Loch Ness Monster must be one, and if Scottlands could have one, their must be one hiding in Rattlesnake Lake just ready to crawl out and gobble them up.

I let the kids watch another movie, certainthey would fall asleep, but after it was over I heard a racket, they raided the kitchen and were playing Mario Carts on the Wii at 3 a.m.! The Ogress in me arose and I sent them all to bed, lights off. Finally I thought I could get some sleep, but all the beer activated my bladder, and by 7 am the kids were up again and swimming in the pool!

As much as I'd like to be there, I'm not driving to Chickeladies today, too tired to hit the road. We will have to plan a trip out there together. I'm filling my freezer with seafood too of the apples are gone by then. There are places in South Bend with lots of good fish.

Edited to add:

Happy Anniversary! Making it to 29 years is a real accomplishment these days. I hope you have a great day celebrating.

Thank you everyone for the hugs and sympathy. The pain is still so fresh and I miss her so much. We are going to buy an Asian Pear tree today (to pollinate our other one) and we will bury her under it in our back yard. I will be able to look out the kitchen window and see her spot. Hopefully, soon I will just have sweet memories of her instead of this overwhelming ache. Maybe I will be able to stop crying someday.

Candy, I am sorry for your loss too and hope your new pooch finds a place in your hearts and your home quickly.

And how is the kitty with the cough? Wasn't that Ogress? Did he have all his tests?

CR--glad you did well yesterday and hope that's a repeat for today.

Free Broody Australorp

I have a very nice "lorp - but she's a broody and because we have a Hawk problem, we can't let her raise her own. When we let her have chicks this spring (from the incubator, over a couple of days), the hawk got all but 2, which I took away from her and put in a brooder.

She was an exceptional momma - but no match for the hawk. We have tried "breaking her up" which lasts a few days of egg laying, then she's back to wanting to hatch.

So if someone wants a really super gentle chicken, and a good brooder, she is FREE!. She has never tried to peck, although she grumbles a bit when you take her off the nest. A nice girl.

Course, now that I've said that, she'll probably start laying and won't go broody again

Thanks! I'm going to be pointing out to various younger humans that next year would be a good time for other people to throw a party (especially since it will mark the point where I've been married half my life).

Sorry about your cat-child; we lost our Zathras in July, so it's still a sore I don't like to poke.

Sorry to hear about your cat and dog.

We all love our chickens. BUT they can't give us the love back that a cat and dog can

Does Anyone Want to Trade?

At the end of October, we cull and fill the freezer for winter. We have a lot of lovely Muscovies (Chocolate and white) that could make a nice addition to someone's flock. We also have some dark ripples. (They are also very tasty!)

I am looking for a female Welsh Harlequin OR a Khaki Campbell (or one of each) - the two I bought turned out to be Drakes, so I could swap a male for female, or Muscovies - ducks or drakes.

Photos here - we have a lot more, just didn't get around to taking more pics!

I also have some young "Polish" chickens - (not show quality) that would like a new home

Happy anniversary!

Today has been hectic, and soon I have to drive to Kent for my Father in-laws 76th Birthday... I am NOT looking forward to driving over the narrows in this wind!

But $4 toll and some gas is cheaper than the boat fare round trip for 2 adults!

To top that off, I was contacted today by my ex-sister in-law... Her father "my ex-father in-law" is ill. And needs to rehome 4 cockatiels. I feel obligated to take them because two were breeders that I used to own, and two are chicks that I raised... I had to leave them there with my ex-husband and his father when I left 6 years ago, there was no way I could take them, when at the time I myself had no place to live... Now he is having severe respitory issues, and needs to rehome the birds, as the dander agrivates his problem. But he refuses to let them go to anyone BUT me!

I WILL make this work, even if it is only temporary, just until I am able to find them homes... I was not planning on ever having indoor birds again... I can make this work... Right? No wait, I can and will make this work. I have to help Lary. Simple as that, as he helped me many times after my divorce from his son...

Anyone want a cockatiel?

So is eveyone enjoying our first monsoon?
It got a bit windy here last night..and off & on it rained like the dickens!!!!!!!!!!
Birds came out of their coops this morning & promptly went right back in!
Mama Broody did the same, curious chicks following.
But as soon as the rain stops, they are all out after worms!!
Worms every where, a worm reunion after the dry summer!
ALL my winter plantings are up now.
I love that I did not have to water any of them.
Pumpkins just keep getting bigger.
I may leave one at the local Tavern for a "Guess the weight" contest, 50 cents a guess in a punchbowl.
I get the pumpkin back after the contest, though.
Cannot guess it's weight (there are 2 giant, 1 medium in the mammoth Pumpkins) and the one I took to the Fair had to be picked prematurely 9as the Fair was in August) and so was only 65 pounds.
I have to find a big freight scale to weight them on, then we can take them to the Tavern.
OK, I am outta here...maybe take some more pictures later.
Need better pics of the Icelandics...you guys will just LOVE the coloring!
