PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ...... Somebody tell me the fire/explosion in the area of 123rd & 5th ave in north Seattle is not Rainwolf or any other fellow BYCers. It is on the news right now and from the news video looks like the entire house was destroyed. They just talked to a man who said he found a scorched birthday card laying in the street 2 blocks away. The media has said it was "an elderly couple" who lived in the house and both have been taken to the burn unit at harborview. My heart goes out to those in this impacted by this and I especially hope that it is none of my byc buddies.

Latest issue of National Geographic has a very interesting article on the teenage brain. I think it would be an interesting read especially for 4312 and those of us struggling or soon to be struggling with rebellious teens. I am all for original pronunciations over colloquial ones. For instance, Pierre South Dakota is pronounced "peer" instead of the french "pee-air". In Dubois, Pennsylvania they say "do boyz" instead of the french "doo bwah".

For many parts of the USA , towns, lakes, streets and parks have Native american names that were translated into french and no one is left around who spoke the original language so we often have to infer the pronunciation.


My two pet peeves are "Warshington" and "Haaalaa peen oo"

I am a little behind.

So how do you pronounce Colville, Pend Oreille and Okanogan?

Or Loup Loup Pass--named after some French dude and should be pronounced "Loo Loo" but people here say the P so it's Loop Loop.

I thought it was pronounced Loop Loop

The fire was a bit north of Rainwolf on the same side of the freeway. It was due east of me on the other side of the freeway.
