I'll tell DH that it is wing-walk material -- since he's an aviation nut he will go for that .. will be several strips per step since each step is three 2x4s, spaced slightly apart

am not too sure, though, that it would stick to cedar steps treated every year with a drying-linseed-oil preservative --- will have to try it out and see .. a loose strip could be more hazardous than the alternative

when I slip on the stairs, it's not because they are slippery, but because I am carrying a load big and heavy enough that I cannot see my feet; and I am leaning back too far -- I usually try to remind myself to go down the stairs BACKWARDS when carrying large-and/or-heavy ... yes, the one time I did slip, it was because I stepped on one of DH's discarded, balled up, Kleenexes that I didn't notice since it was after dark and I was hurrying down to see what "that odd noise" was

Sorry, you do not have enough tattoos nor piercings, dude!

Well I have sharpies and a nail gun so I can fix that.

I will follow your advice. Thank you.

Forgive but do you suppose there is any chance she has hidden and gone broody? I would keep looking and calling. I have had some pretty wild chickens get away but when they heard my voice decided they wanted to be caught so they could go back in the coop.

She's too young to go broody.
I thought I heard her respond when I called her name this morning in the woods behind my home and looked for about two hours.
It'll be what it is; I'm getting ready for it to be bad news. It's after lunch.

Thinking of you this morning...did Dottie come for breakfast?

take care - dawn

Oh, Dawn, thanks for thinking of me.
I've been out searching again this morning.
I'm hoping she's found a safe spot and is hiding out from the rain.
I was out gardening all day yesterday and all eight of the girls were with me.
No noise, no alarm, no feathers flying. At some point in the afternoon I became aware that she wasn't with us. (She's my favorite, of course.)
Now I'm not sure what to do.
Someone (not a chicken fancier) had an attiutude last night of "it's just a chicken" - I'm grateful for this forum.
You guys understand that it's not just a chicken - it's Dottie!
She's got a great personality. Lots of my neighbors have commented on her and she's a favorite with the neighborhood children.
(She's one of Hallerlake's Spitzhauben with the spikey rock-star hair-do.)
I hope she finds her way home.
Not planning to be out in the rain today and trying to decide if I should let the other girls out to "find" her.
What do you guys think? Would it help?

My son had a bird turn up after being missing for three weeks. She was thin but otherwise healthy. He has no idea where she went.

I'm so glad you posted this Illia - hubby thought i was completely nuts to include Polands (Polish in American English, yes?) in my meaty project. I also have Marans, Mottled Java, BLRW and Sussex for the big bird part. Only have about a dozen babies so far, but all looking good. And I just love the little hairdo on them, makes them look a bit Icelandic. Oh, and just to confuse it a bit more, have a really pretty BLRW/Ameraucana pullet which I'm going to cross with the BLRW/Poland cockerel when they are old enough.

And, BTW, where did you learn all the genetic stuff - colours and sexing? Cool Info:)

Edited - I forgot about the poor little, well, not so little Cornish - they will end up in the mix somewhere. The cockerels are getting bigger now.

Is it a dog kennel ? I have one that I made a regular little roof from 2x4's and tin. It has worked great. Let me know if ya want a couple pics.

It is a dog kennel, and yes on the pictures, please.

She's only a couple of months old!
