Good job getting your buck! My mothers fiance still has yet to get his. 3 trips out and not even a sighting... Mom and him are going to Copalis crosiing to go out for Elk... Any tips for me to pass on to him? lol He has no clue what he's doing.

tell him to get a dog squeaky toy -- sounds a great deal like a game-calling device that fools predators into thinking a rabbit is squealing

for some reason it also causes deer to come see what is happening

I was trying to call coyotes, but instead what showed up ?? three ravens and an elk !

Do you have an alarm on your car? We had a guy scouting deer at the top of our driveway....on the county road...he was just annoying. So I'd make sure & set off the truck & car alarms randomly, throughout the day....deer don't like the sirens and honking horns.

Great job with the buck! You have a whole lot of meat now. I got an e-mail from the rancher that my 1/4 beef will be ready in less than a month. I looked in my freezer and there is not much room - most of the 1/4 from last year is still in there! I'm gonna have some happy dogs.

Is anyone from King County going to be driving down to CR? I can load you up with some beef if CR wants some.

Or I'll trade with anyone for any kind of fish or processed chicken

My girls went to bed on their own and got up and down on their own. Last night, their light was burned out (seemed like it burned out after a week of use), but all of them were up there sleeping. I changed the bulb and they seemed agitated so I turned the light off. When I plugged it in this morning to check on them, they got up and one by one went down the ramp to eat.

She is that !!

A model for women to emulate.

CL did you drag it out too?

What kind of chicks are you incubating now??

I dont have a place in the cabin for a brooder but would love to be starting some. Maybe I will make one, after I get the new shed built. Better if I just built another chicken only shed. Decisions decisions !

Well, the big boy is finally cooped with his ladies. I kept 3 of the 6 partridge girls that I raised up. Two of his girls have just stared laying, one about a week and a half ago, and another a couple days ago (it was SO exciting to see 2 eggs in that nestbox at once!) It feels like it's been such a long wait .... oh right, that's because IT HAS! Haa haa. I'm not planning on hatching any of them until probably the beginning of January or so...I don't want to wait too late, since they take so long to mature, I would like to get the 2nd generation outside before it gets too cold next winter.

Sometimes I miss the days where I'd get really physically ill and have to stay in bed all day.

Instead I'm a "healthy diabetic" and keep regular hours and get adequate exercise, even when I'd really rather just go back to sleep.
