OK so here is the sad update on the free coop. I went out and the guy picked it up with his tractor and set it on my trailer. He also gave me several sheets of plywood and OSB in case I needed to make repairs, and all of the nice red tin for the roof. I got home and hadn't decided where to put the coop when the guy calls and says hey I don't think those other people are coming back do you want this other one? It's 4'x16' . OK sure I will be there as soon as I can get the first one off the trailer. So I quickly got the neighbour to help and figured out a decent place to unload for now. So I get back out to the guys place and he says ok before we start with this one how about a green house.

Oh yeah talk to me. he takes me to look at it. Now we are talking a REAL gren house. It is pit set so below frost line. 10' x 18' stick built. The walls are garage door window segments. He said here is the deal. You want it take it this week. The only thing I leave is the apple tree the rhodie and the pit where the house was. Well I called Robert my neighbour the gardener. He is all eggscited. He gets the green house I get the fluorescent lights the wood stove AND the 4 new bee hives with new frames and foundation.

I think I hit a bit of a jack pot today.

Thank you Sadie Sue.

I havnt closed my coop in so long... I believe the last time I closed it was when I first put the flock in there. And that was just so they would figure out that THAT was home and not the old coop. Now though, I leave it open, but it is completely surounded and covered in wire, with an 18" apron run along the outside. Plus Chickieladys pokey no climb barbs! I havn't had an issue yet. Now when our temps really dip below freezing, say consistantly in the 20's, then I'll close up for the nights. Just to hold some extra heat in.

I have strict rules and close my coops every night, and they have lock bars on them, with thumb clips (like on a horse lead or dog leash) BUT, every so often I think HE has locked them all, and he think I locked them all, and the next morning I go out to unlock coops and find a flock already out & wide awake.........

Not cool!!!!!!!!
The no-dig/no-climb fence was an idea I got from Greg, and it works.
BUT there is always something (a weasel?) that can go right through the 2x4 fence wire lickity-split...so I always LOCK the coops.

Nice as in color...they can be kind of poopy at times--but should improve with more handling. I did not have time this summer. :\\

Heather, I PM'd you.

I still have this HUGE bottle of Ivermectin that I want to use up before I invest in the Eprinex. I just ordered some of that for RonB though and helped him worm with it last week. We may have to resort to that though. We cleaned out the coop AGAIN, down to the bare floor, dusted well with Poultry Dust, dusted the 5 remaining birds in there and will continue to dust them every other weekend until we see no more. I think we gave up too early last time, assuming we got the last of them and we didn't follow up well enough. If I have to place an order at Jeffers for anything else, I will probably go ahead and get some. But we just wormed them in August with the Ivermectin. Doing it now with the Eprinex, do you think that's too soon? ..............sigh.
