I must say I have used the Eprinex and before used the Ivomectin and I am a Eprinex fan now!!!!!!!
I doesd all my flocks about 2 mon ago, and there is not 1 bug on any bird anywhere.
I just looked at all of them today..and they look great!
Using Ivomectin before, and still would have occasional mites...so Eprinex solves all the problems & is so easy to deal with when you have so many birds.
LOVE IT!!!

I'm glad to hear this. We also used Ivermectin in the past, and then we lost Meg's cochin to mites 2 weeks ago. We finally got the Eprinex in and dosed EVERY single bird again last weekend, even though we gave them all Ivermectin in early August. We will repeat next weekend too.

I am serious, usually this time of year, when birds are moulting, we get lice..after feather shaft.....and the mites follow.
I doesd 2 mo ago, and looked at every bird today so as what will go to the show, and not 1 bug...I am jazzed!
The 3/4 full bottle of Ivomectin I have will go to the dump!!!!!!
I am so glad you got Eprinex!
You will be glad, too!

I am hoping to find some lav/split LF Ameraucana's or eggs too. My only Lav Am is a roo and he is knock-kneed, so I don't want to breed with him. I have two split Am pullets, and need to find them a man!

Thank you CGG. That sounds fairly simple. But what about the coop? Do I have to disinfect it and change all the shavings?

No, you don't have to disinfect, just dust with Poultry Dust or Seven. The mites thrive on their hosts, but dusting the coop is probably a good idea too.

What does "dusting" the coop mean? Sorry to be so dumb. Mix it in with shavings? I have an 8 x 10 coop with pine shavings on the floor and a little DE lightly mixed in. Since I only have three birds, I scoop with a litter box scoop every day, so my shavings have not been changed yet. Do I need to do that? My three hens do not use the roost or the nest boxes. They are not too bright, I think. The only one laying is the black Orp and she lays on the floor of the coop in the same place every day. I have tried a cat litter box nest box, milk crate nest box, plus have three built in nest boxes. Have tried shredded paper, hay, and shavings in all of them. They will not even get in them.

I never knew chickens could be so complicated....or am I just simple minded?

Have you tried putting a dummy egg in the nest box and leaving it? I used real eggs. Just left an egg in 1 of the nest boxes for a few days after they started laying and it worked for all but 1 of mine. . Once they r laying take the egg out of the box though or it will rot!

She sleeps under the nest boxes in a lil 6 inch tall space and even lays in here somehow??? The world may never know!!! She cannot even stand or barely squat but she can still push out an egg....

Sorry I can't help you with the bug issue as I haven't had to treat my chickens yet and it sounds like you're being challenged from all directions right now!

What I can tell you is that a lot of folks who make their own liquors, olive oils, vinegars, etc. come to us at Vino Aquino for their bottles. We sell small 375 ml. or 500 mil. bottles which work really well for home made gifts. We also have the T-corks available to seal them and sell the shrinks for the top if you want to get really fancy. Just letting you know there is another resource if you're ever in Tacoma.
Hope the other issues get straightened out for you soon!

Just take the dust (it comes in a cannister with a shaker style top) and literally shake it around the shavings, like a salt shaker. If your roost is flat, you may want to shake some on top of the roost too.

Well, I 'm wondering if I'm really going anywhere tomorrow. Sears thinks 7:30am Saturday is an appropriate delivery time: not at my house, people. I was raised not to call anyone on the telephone before 10am Saturday or Sunday and that was before I was married to someone who doesn't usually come to bed before 3am. So we may well cancel that purchase and go find a stove elsewhere (and probably everything else elswhere for the rest of our lives: not doing business with people whose idea of customer service have sunk so low.

It may sound trivial or even "lazy" (although people using that word to people whose life circumstances they do not know are not worth paying attention to) but we need to have handrails and stuff taken apart and other things done by the hired hand, who is coming in specially, and our daughter- big heavy ceramic pots moved, furniture moved, and other stuff that my husband and I are not up to doing, nor, some of it, our daughter unassisted.

And Sears has no way to change their schedule, no customer input, and no human beings answering the phone at the local store. Why would anyone want to do spend money on a business with that kind of obnoxious attitude?
