my arm hurts from shooting. I got to shoot a .300 rifle and that thing kicked.... my friends got a laugh out of it cause every time i shot i would fall back on one leg.... I hugged that thing tight... i don't see any bruising yet.... but my arm was not happy for me to move it for a while. 308 and other rifles were shot. and i used my friends shotgun... i don't like pump action shotguns... i am used to my great grandfathers gun 1923 the first break type one. i told patrick to only load 3 cartridges into his .12 his holds 6 and could have a magazine but my arm was tired.... on my first try (the 3rd shot) i almost hit the clay pidgen. It was a fun day but really cold.

And while i was gone it apparently dumped 3 inches of snow super fast in pullman (didn't snow where i was) and everyone is stuck and the roads are not plowed.... the fire department was even busy shoveling and sweeping their area. tomorrow i need to go grocery shopping i hear there is a storm warning till wednesday for 2 feet of snow.....

edit: just checked and tonight it is calling for 6.5 on the way here......... i may not get to go shopping tomorrow...

A 300 what??? There is a huge diff tween say a 300 savage (pretty mellow) and say a 300 winchester mag (pretty wild). Btw on a dare I shot a 300 win mag one handed, held at full extension. NOT something I would recommend for most. Has very good potential to break bones.

! i remember it was a winchester 300 something. the 22 rifle was a ruger. and he has a espanola something .357 or .358 revolver. ( i don't really know guns, just that i am more comfortable holding rattlesnakes than guns.)

btw i believe it could break bones. i was kneeling using a 5 gal bucket for support. that gun is huge. it hit me in the shoulder socket.... if i had it on the collar bone any i am sure it would of broken..... i am glad he didn't bring the muzzeloader or his 50 caliber. i wouldn't touch that thing with a stick. the 300 almost knocked me on my butt.

Yes if it was a 300 win mag it will set ya on yer butt. and there is no need to grab them snakes that is what the gun is for !!! I have had too many close encounters with rattlers. There is no "safe snake" just that dead ones are less dangerous.

I just filled out my Ag Census online. Pretty lame. I don't consider a little hobby vegetable garden, fruit trees and blueberries that always go to the bears, hens that don't even lay enough eggs to cover the price of their feed, and a bunch of free-loading roosters an "operation".

There were no choices to designate it a backyard hobby.

Ah, I wondered if I'd be the only one mentioning or asking about the Ag Census. This is the first time we've ever received it and at first I kinda protested to myself, because honestly sure I make money off my chickens and we have a (wild looking) pasture, an orchard, greenhouse, and scattered gardens, but - I can't tell you our expenses, our profit, how much acreage what is on, in fact if anything except the pasture even exceeds an acre, or whatever, and then with the chickens - We do exhibition and dual purpose birds, which, far as I see isn't an option.

Maybe I'm just overreacting.

Anyway, couple days off and now I just gotta ask after today's excitement - How much snow do you all have? What is everyone expecting this week?

We have 4" of snow, still out there after some sun, and are expecting a decent amount more this later weekend/early week. I'm excited. The chickens don't know what to think of it, the chicks think it's lava or something, and the dogs LOVE it.

First time we got that census as well - I get a college graduate one tracking my career nearly every year, even though I gave it up when Alex was born 13 years ago! I saw others on here mention it, makes me wonder if they targeted BYC! .... or maybe they go by lot size. We have just over 3 acres, but most of it is heavily wooded.

We have about 5 inches, most of it from Saturday. Fridays snow would come and go. It is supposed to snow through Tuesday or Wednesday. It is not snowing right now. My dogs also LOVE the snow, chickens not so much. they can get out the run door and run around the coops under the eaves, and can get to one chunk of woods near the coop that hardly gets any snow on the ground. (I limbed up the trees and cleared out the few plants that did grow so I can see both the chicken coop and the dog run from my desk). I tossed a few tomatoes out there and only a few of the birds braved the white stuff to eat the tomatoes.

My banty chickens were more curious, well at least the ones I did not get from Heather. I tossed a few shovel fulls in their run, and they all came running, curious, and eating it like a yummy snack. The two from Heather wanted nothing to do with the snow. I guess they have seen too much of it !

I have just over an inch of snow. Woud have had more, but everything melted yesterday. Then we got dumped on for 30-45 minutes, then nothing but a dusting. Roads are slick, Ive aready made my 45 mie trip to Bainbridge and back. now waiting for daylight so I can go to work. Ugg I hate having to leave my house at 5:20 am. It can be SO very hard to get out of bed on cod mornings.

If you dont have to be out on the roads, please stay put.
