OK, I have some good news for a change. Slightly bragging too. In order to apply for employment with the shipyards you need to pass an accuplacer test. There are 2 levels. A basic Helper Program (which was my intention) and a more advanced Apprenticeship program. You are tested in Reading Comprehension, Sentence skills and Math. I took the accuplacer today and passed well above what is required to apply for the Apprenticeship! Much higher starting pay and pay raises and paid education! So, we'll see what happens at the job fair next week. Wish me luck.
Fantastic! Good LUCK CGG!

This is what was on the ground at sunset last night before the foot or so that fell between 1am and 8am: classic Cascade Concrete, about six inches of wet snow over two inches of frozen slush. NOT fun stuff to walk in.

Bacchus tried to walk in the back door with me, and is now standing looking in the windows and bleating: best have a bit of lunch and go out and deal with the mess.
I looked at that last night, thought of snow on top of it, and got out the snow shovel. I did the steps, the walk, and the side walk. I've done the steps and walk again today, but I may not get to the sidewalk. I also raked the snow off the chickens' pens. I probably didn't need to, but I kept seeing people's pictures of squashed pens, and figured I'd rather be safe than sorry.

OK qwik note to say I am back. I just measured 16-17" of snow and it hs melted a bit. I was more worried about saving coops / runs than measuring snow. We lost power at 7:00 am so I figured that was a good time to go start trying to slavage what I could. Well I worked until 10:30 and managed to salvage ALL so far with minimal repairs needed when the weather gets better. As near as I can tell I still have total containment / security. We are still with out power so I had to go dig out the current bush and plug into it. I will have pics on soon. Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers but please remember there are others too. And please reach out and try to help those around you if you can.

Great news!!!

Our snow is freezing and then melting then freezing and melting. We are having big branches bust off the trees. If or when it freezes hard tonight we are going to have a real mess I best.

Well, it stopped raining...hope that is not an omen of worse things to come.
Took the oppurtunity to go deliver lunch nibbles for the poker playing chooks in their coops.
Opened doors & some ventured out only to go right back in.
Since I have tons of winter squash raised & stored in straw, I got out 6 spaghetti squash, chookies favorite, each 6-8 pounds huge !
DH cut them all in half and delivered to each coop.
So chookies have spaghetti on the half shell.
Keeps them occupied so their is no frustration & fanny picking going on.

If I'd known we'd be snowed in for so long..and thought more about it, I should have stocked up on a bunch of green cabbages.
Chooks can work their pecking out on a few hard green cabbages, for days.
Well, back to my novel.
Looks ominous here....makes me nervous & my guts are not happy.............must be more than just celiac disease

Later peeps !

And oh what fun this slush will be if it freezes with so many footprints already in it...
My turkeys are out in the snow having a blast...no chickens though.

A funny note.
I had blue Ameracaunas in the pen with a Buff Rock cockerel..hatched a handful of eggs (3 mo ago) to get some various darnesses of OEs.and 1 pullet is a buff/blue mottled.
Interesting !
Cannot waite to see her egg color.
I will snap her pic if I can.
Seems these Blue Ams have a mottled gene bubbling under the surface...wonder how that happened ?
orloff in the wood pile maybe ?

LOL
