It's warming up! Drip drip drip, I have not heard that in days! Maybe the mountain of snow that slid off my roof and is currently blocking my garage will melt away....

well i am going to finally go to bed. i have finished the size of the baby quilt i wanted. slowly putting the piecing together... i am now down to just putting the colums together... then the columns will go together....
Tired, but i made progress.

glass of milk before bed.... and the milk tastes like ice cream.... its slushy too.

The lighting is not the best.... i have it laid out on my floor... no room on the table....
I don't have a pattern that i am following... just something simple, squares and triangles.... this is the 3rd quilt i have ever made. not bad right?

Do ya have wood heat ? keep them covered but make sure they get air. Maybe hand warmesr if ya have em.

Also keep in mind you may wantto save your cell battery for emergency.

I was referring to red roosters eggs as the chicks. woops. didn't make myself clear. I really hope everyone's eggs are doing ok and your power came on quickly.

We use a wood stove and are all good. My chicks are 3 months old and snuggle with a brahma if they get cold. We have a solar charger for the phones that works in a window so I wasn't worried about the phones. Also have a few hours of use out of the battery backup for the home phone.

There is well over a quarter inch of ice outside, and it just keeps coming down. DH heard the base road conditions wrong and him scraping the truck woke me. Ice was freezing on it just as fast as he could scrape it until the defroster warmed enough. I did get him inside.

Power came back on sometime between 1:30 and 4:00.

The dogs were slipping all over when they went out for potty and didn't want to stay outside for once.

T HI Texted and she is kind of freaking out. She has lost power and has no source of heat. She said she had the pellet stove cranked overnight to get the house very warm but is scared that if her power is off very long they will get very cold. I told her that this is why she shoukd have chickens. They would snuggle up and keep her and DD warm. (hey just trying to get her to lighten up a bit). Seriously if she is out too long is there anybody close to her that has a warm place? OR a spare generator to run her pellet stove. These are the times when we all need to take care of each other. While I don't think there is anybody close to me. IF anybody near me needs a place let me know. While our house is tiny we do have wood heat and can cook on propane or build a fire in the yard to cook on. We also have our little travel trailer which has heat, cooking and lights.

Advantages to living in the city? the only perk i know of is called Bellevue Square... otherwise keep your Snowmageddon... i will be happy with 4+ feet any day....
Overhere at WSU i can tell who is a westsider from how they drive. Portland people stick out for how they tailgate. every localization has its quirks. i am always curious what the westside thinks of east side people.

I think Eastsiders are annoying when they generalize about what they think are the quirks of Westsiders. But I forgive you since you may have had too much vodka.

OK, so those of you who have really really dark Marans eggs, what do you candle with. I couldn't see nothing!!!! I tossed two though, one was really really porous and looked clear, another had a big crack in it so that baby went. 9 left.
Also had 9 of the BLRW's. I'm so excited about these as I have the roo I got from CGG who is a black (or really really dark blue) roo named William in there with what I think are two light blue hens. These are their eggs. So hopiing really hard to get all blue & blacks! Other than these 3 and the gorgeous new blue roo I have, all my hens are either splash or light light blue, and my main man Wyatt is splash too. Hoping for some new blood/new colors for the flock.

I have a candler that is an upside down heat lamp that has a circular metal plate covering the opening and a hole in the center for holding the egg. It has a clamp to attach it to a table and I turn it facing up. I use a 40 watt bulb and it needs to be pretty dark to look at Marans eggs. I candle at night with all other lights off. I can tell development very easily that way. Hope your BLRW roo gives you some nice dark blue babes!

So I wanted to relax..... I get my glass out and pour my vodka... except nothing comes out.... it was frozen solid.....
last i checked alcohol is not supposed to stress you out before you even pour it, or drink it....
now it is thawing and the consistency is of snot..... its really weird.
I guess vodka can freeze and my minifridge is very special.... 31* in milk section.... freezer is still dropping but is down to -8* the freezing point of alcohol is around -16*.... i think my freezer succeeded or it also helps that the bottle is in contact with the back of the freezer where the element things are.... and that is colder than ambient air..... I recommend Frigidaire as a great brand.
Here is SCIENTIFIC proof that vodka freezes.

Stoli's will not freeze in your freezer, what you got is poopy spud juice.
Get the good stuff & freezing won't happen !
