Just an FYI: There's a LifeGear camping lamp available in the camping section of stores like Walmart that you can use to charge your cell phones with a DC to USB adapter- because it not only is battery operated, its hand cranked! You can use the download patch cable to do so. Please keep these on hand in your vehicles and home, they are invaluable during multiple day power outages!

Or when you have that single day power outage and EVERYONE calls you to check on you.

Thankfully, we have electricity, so I've been able to recharge my cell phone twice today.

I'm up on Whidbey and my new chicken friend/enabler brought me Lavender Orpington chicks from Seattle Tuesday (dear Gods, that woman is dedicated) so we're nervously brooding 9 chicks. I may try to see if any of our Silkies would like to foster them soon, I'm that neurotic. My prayers go out to those without electricity with chicks. I simply cannot imagine.

Currently there is about 6-8" out there, not a lot compared to the other side of the state, but, about 6-8" more than I would like to have right now, and currently 27 º with 29º being the high for the last 3 days. Coming from Pennsylvania, it doesn't snow out here, but, for this part of Washington, that is a good measure.

Well so far it doesn't sound like the east side got much snow. I am about 1/2 way tween Portland and Seattle and we got 17"

No no .. I don't be needin anything like that in amounts of snow. eww. We have a 2 acre garden I need to be starting seeds for in the greenhouse in the next 2 weeks, I need this snow to be away from here.

He & DW are OK...& I have no doubt he will be on shortly.
I am siggning off, got more snow & from friday (50 MPH winds) and Sat...over 4 1/2 " of rain to fall here in the Willapa hills.

Extra prorane tanks, water jugs filled...ya know when your power is off, your well is off.

Hey all!
Well, we survived our EPIC snow/ice storm! 24 inches total. Came up over my knees.Spent 2 hrs digging our car out of the ditch(Yukon XL). DH was trying to beat the snow down in our driveway so that I could take the kids to their pian lessons. He couldn't see where the ditch was and ended up in it! It was sweet of him to think of me. Now, every time I move, I think of him!

Then we lost power but only for a day. Our power guys here are great and worked very hard in nasty/dangerous conditions to get our power back on.
Had a tree next to the house snap off and come crashing down! That was exciting!
And the best news was that my PET scan came back clear!!!
No bone cancer!
So I am back to just dealing with BC!
Hope every body is well!
Ill never get caught up so I just thought I'd better jump in where I was!

So, we ended up with only 12" of snow, capped off yesterday evening with a nice layer of ice.

Just beyond the end of the driveway, the county has done an adequate job of keeping things passable. Problem is, the driveway is not passable without 4WD.

The birds are all completely freaked out.. I had to move feed and water inside last night as they totally refused to go outside for food. I thought they would get hungry and go yesterday, but no.

I had the rescue two of my free range roosters. It looked like they flew out into the deep powder, and got high centered. I think they were prepared to die right there where they landed.

One tree down, and branches started popping when I was doing chores last night. We will see....

My biggest inconvenience came last night as we lost internet and cable. We feel for those who have lost power.

My morning routine has been tossed on it's head. But you know, when it gets tough you gotta do what you gotta do, so here I am trying to surf BYC with IPhone in hand.

This post is partially in jest, we feel like we have come through things way easier than others.

Ya know I always say my phone is always on. See most of the time a text alert won't wake me so no big deal. But for some reason this morning when my phone went CRAZY with text I woke up! They started at 2:45am seven messages in a row and I replied. See It was Red Rooster she said her gen at 10:00pm thursday. She said she had eggs in her pockets for 35 hours now and they are still hatching! she was so surprised. I told her "see I told ya not to give up too soon. Now not to get personal but stuff yer bra" She said she had. She said she was trying everything now. She sent a pic of a little chick and 2 eggs looked like in a sweatshirt pocket. Now Anna has TRUE pocket chicks ! ! ! ! Let this be a lesson to us all. DON'T give up too soon.

Yes while I was talking to CL last eve I watched as one of my out buildings collapsed under the wet snow load. It was about 10'x20' had been a chicken coop many years ago but was most recently used for storage. I was telling CL about it as I watched and she said get out there and put some supports in it and push it back up! Nope not worth the risk of getting smashed under it. It will be easier to just salvage the what I can and start over.


Oh and FYI ! Am I upset at RRF for texting me at 2:45 NO WAY ! ! ! ! I was happy to hear that her (true) pocket chickens are still doing ok.
See if I was worried about my phone waking me then I should use the on / off switch and turn the dang thing off at night. Sorry but I have the outlook that if you don't want to get a call or text in the middle of the night then you should turn the phone off.
OK so now I am gonna try to get a few minutes nap before I go to work for the neighbour today. Ya all take care and I will be back later.
